radar detectors... worth it? do they really work?

I like to refer to this as "catching a duck" works like a champ, but i like to stay bout 1/4 mile behind or so... I got most tricks figgured out, cops never dim their lights and are always bright anyways, will never have fog lights, and course everyone knows the signature front of a crown vic...

Yup, ive learned to spot a crown vic from front and back from miles a way!

Thats the usual but around me they have a few undercovers and explorers so its not always a sure thing but the newer vics are easy to spot with the distinct parking lights.

only variarion here is the shariff drives a durango, and hes cool.... he let me and a buddy off for painting lines with industrial stength pavement marking paint across the hiway needless to say they are still there and this is almost 3 years later....

Where im from in Fl they have Ford F150 with tool boxes in the back. The tool boxes flip up and the lights get turned on, it's pretty sweet really. Here we got the usual, crown vic, camaro, explorer, intrepid, blah blah blah

LOL. Unfortunately, it's a REALLY old technique. I think Barney Fife may have used it! Not going to be very common now.

Yep, and not a bad way to describe it. Just like using a tremelo changes the pitch of the note, so does the material in the road with the car's sound when it is hit. Ever hit a highway gator (truck retread that came off)? Same sound.

I don't speed that often ;) But the times I don't realize I am over the speed limit, my Bel 980 has saved me.

I just upgraded to the Escort 9500ix. To me its worth the $$$
My friend just got a speeding ticket, will cost $250 for the court and another $30 for traffic school. And the next ticket will probably increase your insurance.

OK so it is a given that we all drive limit +!.
I bought my 1st V1 12 years ago, sent it in for an upgrade and it rings true today. The old one is in the Park Avenue. The newer of the 2 sits in my 02 SS and now is hard wired with the remote display to ward off free riders.
V1 is undenaiably #1 at about $370 new. Would u go to a cheap doctor, attorney or accountant? A 25 mph over ticket easily off sets the price of the BEST detector.
If your smart and listen to the warnings I have had MANY early detections with laser ahead.

I run a belltronics and it work very well against radar. I read around a dozen tests on these and they were consitantly at the top. Mine has saved my ass alot. But a week after I got It I was handed a 82 in a 70 ticket. Fuzzbuster never chirped. I saw the state boy and got down from 90 luckily. As soon as I got home I called and railed on the belltronics dealer. Here is what I found out. Your fuzzbuster should be mounted as low on your windshied as possible while having a clear view in front. When your laser detector goes off (if it does) you may as well pull over and wait for the ticket. What I mean is when I was shot at around 1000ft, the circle of light was about 12" in diameter (thats why the fuzzbuster didn't go off - as they aim at center of mass) coming out of the laser. Get a laser jammer, if legal in your state. I have one and the two eyes are located in the black camaro insert on the bumper cover between the center of mass and the light fixtures and one in back on top of the licence plate. They work well, will jam to some laser guns, and buy more time with some others. Jammer goes off, you hit the brakes to the speed that is acceptable, hit the mute, and the laser gets the reading. Better than a fuzzbuster alone, but not 100% bulletproof. And as for the police, they are like anyone else, some are assholes, some are very good people. A little respect toward them will help alot of the time. Has for me. If there is any interest in it, I will post some pic's of the setup. John

The problem with mounting them as low as possible is that sometimes the hood (WS6) will block the signal. I have mine mounted from my rearview mirror, it get's the range of it mounted high, but still is set low enough to get the signal if they shoot at my bumper.

The passport 8500 x50 to me is the greatest it saved my ass more than I want to say...when I was driving home about 3 months ago I was pulling a little over 90 I was keeping up with 2 other car's I hear a funky sound coming from the passport and it was saying laser I slowed to 55 after half a mile I see a officer with his laser gun clicking away he jumps in his car and get's the guy who was in the lead (350z) like I tell my wify and friends the best rule is never be in the lead when speeding I have done a few run's to ATL from NY and on the first trip the passport has paid for it self...thats just me.
