true it is supply and demand (partially)...
however its marketing and telling the masses what they want...
people will buy what you tell them too!! and force down their throat to buy!
hence pop culture!!

Fuel is 2.60 (or more?) a gallon for regular here. V8 be dieing. Small engine with boost is the future
If they ever bring back the Pontiac and make another T/A, hopefully it wont be until the next gen. Even an actual 5th gen. T/A from Pontiac would still look pretty fugly imo.
I think the key here, if they do recreate it, is to do so with the 1998-2002 WS6 as base, raw design material. Those lateral and frontal lines were perfect. It will go down in history as one of the most beautiful production sportscars ever made and for any future interpretation of it to work, they have to be deeply rooted in those original design influences. I would much rather that they "modernize" it rather than "remake" it- again, without losing those intrinsic factors that make the original beautiful.
Look at the Shelby Cobra Concept...

Now look at an original Shelby Cobra....

To me it seems more like a "modernization" than a "re-invention". The base artistic genetic material is still there and you can see the resemblance.
'modernizing' a '69 camaro is what makes the 5th gen camaro so ugly though...

I see no resemblence? (other than maybe similar weight)
all i see is:

for the record, I dont hate the 5th gens, I dont love them either.
It's in this article...

'67 Camaro? no, inside and out it is all '69 stupid designer or maybe journalism error..Quote:
Nakamura was quick to point out that the design of the 2010 Camaro was inspired by the iconic 1967 Camaro as well as past Corvettes and even the F-22 Raptor fighter jet used by the United States Air Force
he could have said it was designed after biomechanical sharks with titanium alloy gatling guns strapped to their backs if it would have made an extra sale or two...

In addition to getting to drive both the base Camaro and the performance-enhanced SS, we also had the opportunity to hear about the development of the car first-hand from Luciano Nakamura, GM’s lead exterior designer for the Camaro. Nakamura was quick to point out that the design of the 2010 Camaro was inspired by the iconic 1967 Camaro as well as past Corvettes and even the F-22 Raptor fighter jet...
I sense a tad bit of bitterness in you regarding this car. I don't understand it, but you're entitled to it.
Remember, the survival of our breed is crucial here. We're facing legal/political threats that weren't even thought of back when the Camaro was introduced. 5thgen Camaro may not be your taste in aesthetics but it at least ensures public interest, public support and helps to make sure that our kind of musclecars don't go extinct or get regulated out of existence in the US. Like it or not, the Mustang is still in production, wide circulation and it also serves this purpose. In that sense it's beautiful to me too. But this one isn't a mustang. As f-body folks, it's "ours"- it's our take on the musclecar- our heritage- our next generation.
It gives a face, a "living" breathing example to remind people every day why we love these cars and why there is a place for them.

I like the "10" does'nt mean shit to me whether it's faster or slower than an LS1 car.. All my cars are slower than an ls1 f-body.. But, I can make anything I own faster than an ls1 car.. Sooo not having/being faster than an ls1 again = meaningless to me... It's only a waste of money usually to those whom don't have it..
so what you're saying is GM is partially manipulating the nationalistic/cultural pride of Americans to make a profit?
I don't disagree with you at all about that...
but if you're also saying that your explanation is the only/major reason it was brought back, and the only purpose it (as well as the mustang) serves, then I would disagree...
Strawman arguement. My comments made no mention of GM's intention to manipulate human sentimentality in exploit of profit. My comments did not imply that GM itself brought back the Camaro to help our hobby as some sort of favor to enthusiasts. We don't live in that kind of world. I think it is perfectly obvious in itself why GM put life back in to a hugely popular product line.
My comments did however imply that the continued manufacturing of american sportscars is something that provides at least some benefit to enthusiasts such as frequent this forum. That in an indirect, unintentional way, GM did us a favor.
Would you rather neither the mustang or camaro be produced and for our breed to gradually disappear from American culture? 5thgen may be ugly to you, but it protects our heritage in a way.
I don't want to think about my great grand-kids driving prius clones.
you didn't imply anything one way or another. you just said they "serve this purpose"
I havent said anything about the mustang.. I've always liked them..Quote:

I didn't even say I don't want the Camaro in production.. my original thing was that aethetically it doesn't appear to draw from anything but the '69 Camaro and that japanese GM designer was probably just saying he drew details from an american fighter jet because that makes it seem cooler/faster/more 'merican.
ignorance is bliss, by that time I'm sure even rubber tires will be 'dangerous' to the enviroment.Quote:

Gotcha.
That last bit is what we're working to prevent...I wouldn't even want to live under the kind of communist regime that regulates burnt rubber. The trick is, keep people facinated with the beauty of american muscle. If it's always in their face- if they always turn their heads and say "Oooo", then it's going to be hard for them to go along with any future attempt to ban or regulate "evil" cars that "hurt the environment".
The moment that the public can step back from a situation and become indifferent...that's the moment that politicians get to work to create new "solutions" to problems that never even existed and twist the situation in to a more secure career for themselves.
