Update on the LSXtreme catted Y-

Yeah, I know: :gotpics: but I'm having to wait until the rain passes so I can get back under the car. Did the install this weekend (those motor mounts were the most miserable experience of my life!) and after the mounts, the rest went smoothly. The headers were TIGHT but fit really well. The Y took me 15 minutes to install- literally. I seriously thought I was missing something so I triple checked everything- it was way too easy. As soon as I can get the car back in the shop and I get another case of Miller Light (went through all my beer fighting with those damn motor mounts!), I'll get a couple of pics and a review up.

...and here's the LSXtreme catted-Y at the lowest point- the cat. I'm sure the ORY tucks up slightly more. I do not have a bump stop and it does not hit at all. There's about a finger's width space between the floor and te pipe except where the cat is- its about a half-finger. This may not be as precise as the Miller Lite test, but the rim of the can fits easily under the pipe but hits the cat. Forgive the fingerprints- haven't cleaned it up yet.

As for my review:
Holy crap!
There- that sums it up. Even with the "stock" Firehawk dual/dual exhaust this sounds amazing. Performance is amazing, sound is amazing, even got a boost in mpg. It was a breeze to install (only mod was to shave a bit of the K which would have been easier had I done it the first time around- oops). Also, I'd recommend getting at least one of the smaller band clamps from LSX for the passenger side, but you need a total of 5 clamps to put it together. I'll try to get some sound clips once my wife recoups from her shoulder surgery but this is the best mod I've done so far.

Edit- my Hawk is stock height and stock tire size.

Which headers did you mate this up to???

You appear to have more ground clearance then me and my ORY. But it looks awfully close to the body there (kinda looks like it touching the body from this angle), I'm surprised it doesn't bang the floor.

It is an 1/8- 1/4" from the floor. I'm with you- I thought for sure it would hit. I actually sent Justin at LSXtreme a text from under the car saying "are you sure?" but it doesn't hit. Now, part of that may be the poly mounts but it honestly doesn't budge. Yours pulls up higher at the I pipe- had to leave my tunnel brace off until I can get the torque arm and brace from kyspeed next month. What I need to find is my camera so I can get a better pic than just the iPhone (that and hit the y with some degreaser to get my fingerprints off of it!)

They help unless you have little patience for the ordeal that goes into installing them! I know some people have said that they felt more chatter and bumps from the polys but to be honest, as bad as the stock bushings were in my car (138k miles!), the poly bushings actually smoothed things out.

anyone knows if LSXtreme still in business? anyone has their website link? I know the thread is old but Im wondering about the business. I can't find anything. Thanks.

That LSXtreme catted-Y-pipe looks really nice, with the best merger I've seen on a prefabed y-pipe, it's to bad they went out of business.

Kooks makes good headers, but their y-pipe design leaves a lot to be desired. Even the ARH y-pipe merger could be a lot better.

IMO, is it really too much to ask for a top-notch header manufacture to make a top-notch y-pipe, or at least a option for a upgraded high flow/smooth transition merger?

LSXtreme was a sketchy company to start with. They just reboxed those cheap Chinese SS eBay headers and with a healthy mark up. And it sounds like in the end, they screwed a lot of people out of money.

I agree Blue, it's not too much to ask for these companies to put a nice merge collector in there. But they build them as cheap as they can to sell them as cheap as they can. And really it's the buying market that's doing it. People won't buy a $200-$300 Y pipe even if it is constructed better when you can buy cheaply made units for $129. People just don't put emphasis on how well made things are, they just judge by the pocket book. It's a shame really when you go through the trouble of installing headers and an off road Y all in the name of more HP, but then leave some on the table because they don't care about how the Y is made. Just not going that last extra bit to complete the package makes all the other effort seem pointless to me.

I will say this though, for $129 it appears Texas Speed is now selling a stainless Y (cheap grade of stainless but still) that appears to have at least a decent merge collector. Or at least there is an attempt to merge the pipes rather than just "T" them together like others are doing.

You can leave it off if you choose to.
