why do you have a regulator coming off the end of the rail?
Well then, I get gas going thru the filter, thru the rail, and into the hose that is attached to the end of the driver side rail. From there the hose goes into a regulator and then back down under the car. While I am trying to figure this shit out, what is the silver round thing that goes across the rail that connects the driverside rail to the passenger rail?
Thats a good question Orion, I also have an in-line fuel pump. I think it was all installed when I had a supercharger. It is all still hooked up. The guy who did the Trick Flow heads and cam just left it. Its been that way now for years.
the piece between the rails equalizes pressure between the 2 rails. It sounds like you have quite the set up going there and not just a stock set up. You may not have a fuel issue at all although it sounds like a mess to dig through to sort out. You're going to have to see what your pressure is to know whether to keep after the fuel system or move on to something else.
Ok, I think the fuel system is good to go then. The plugs get wet and the fuel shoots out where the schrader valve should be at a high rate when I turn the car on. I also have a pretty good spark from the first plug on the drivers side. What the hell could it be?
I also checked EVERY fuse under the hood and in the car. I pulled each one out and looked to make sure it was good.
Sorry, its a FMU (Fuel Managment Unit), not a regulator.
I doubt it. That is an emission line, if he messed something up by probing this line, it is only going to affect the evaporative emissions.
Not a driveabililty thing and I've never seen something like this cause a no-start. Check Engine lights sure, but not a no-start.
Do you have a scanner to check for codes? It is really hard to help with diagnostics over the 'net like this. If you don't have a stock fuel system, then diagnostics change also. It does sound like you are getting fuel now. And spark. Have you checked for spark at more than one coil?
It is possible to have a bad coolant temp sensor, if it fails reading false cold, it will try to flood the engine with too much gas and foul the plugs for the relatively warm condition. Intake air temp sensor and the CTS should be pretty close to each other with a cold engine.
I don't have a whole lot of LS1 no-start experience, where I work I can't remember any LS1 cars coming in on the hood for a no-start except for a bad starter or battery so far. We rarely work on anything that is not stock, we are not a hi-po shop.
We used to get a lot of 3.8 engines that would come in on the hook with fuel fouled plugs. Put a new set in and the car would run fine and not come back. Wouldn't see any CTS or IAT problems either.
If it turns out that you put a new set of plugs in and then it starts, it makes me wonder what caused them to foul in the first place.
I do have a superchips scanner, but I had the car dyno tuned. Can I still use it? No dash lights are coming on. I only checked one plug, I will try changing them. The only thing I can think of is that I put a bottle of Octane Boost in the fuel before I filled up that day. I then drove to the gas station and filled up. Drove it all that day. Pulled in the driveway and the next morning I had this problem. Will the spark plug still spark even if it is fouled out? Thanks for the help so far guys, you all have been great.
mostly likely not your issue but read this write up at installuniversity on the results of using octane booster.
octane booster results
How much gas was in the tank when you put the booster in?
How far to the gas station?
I put in two bottles at a quarter of a tank and then drove about 5 miles to Mobil and put in premium (93 octane). The car ran great the rest of the day. I parked it for about 3 hours, then started it and backed it in my driveway where it still sits to this day. I will change all the spark plugs tomorrow if I have time. We will see.
Not the smartest thing you ever did. I think we have your problem. Even at five miles you were burning about 10 times the recommended amount.
I'd say you coated your plugs pretty good. Similar to my comment on bad gas, Your warm engine carried you through (while also continuing to add residue with your high level of mix). When you get deposit on your plugs you reduce the ignition energy. But this is not the only source source of ignition energy, you also have thermal energy from the engine (if the engine is warm.)
If it was me, I'd pull the easier plugs and clean them with acetone. Then I'd put them back in and see if it starts or comes much closer to starting. (If it starts I wouldn't let it run.) Then take the difficult plugs out and clean them.
That was the first thing I did. I took out the easiest plug and inspected it. It looked and worked fine. The spark was white and bright. I am going to replace all of them anyways. Anyone have a perfered spark plug to use? The only reason I put in the octane boost was to clean out the fuel system and try to burn off some carbon. I have done it in the past several times with out a problem. But, I am hoping you are right and it is just the plugs. I will update soon.
Alcohol or water mist (fine) sprayed into the TB is 1 method of cylinder cleaning. Engine at operating temp!
If you have a screen in the MAF this would be more difficult.
I start with a light mist short sprays then increase until I note some bogging.
HAHAHAHAHAHA...Yeah, Thanks!
so, have you got this thing to fire up yet? By my count you're working on 2 weeks here. Time to get busy and fix it. :D There's an old saying that dad and grandpa used to use alot. A car only needs 3 things to run.....fuel, spark, and fuel/spark at the right time. Start with fuel and check your pressure then move on to spark if you have enough pressure. You'll find it one way or the other.
Relax Orion, I have a very busy schedule, I work midnights, and I only use the car on the weekends if possible. I havent even got a chance to buy the plugs yet. Believe me, I will try to get it done ASAP. It probably wont be until Sat. I really appreciate everything you guys have done, and you all will be the first to know.
