At 60 mph you are going one mile every minute which is 88 feet per second (FPS) = 5280 feet per minute = 316,800 feet per hour, which divided by 5280 (the feet in one mile) = 60 mph. So let's use the same formula for some random numbers.
Two markers are exactly 1/4 mile apart (1320 feet). A car goes by the first marker and the clock starts. It reaches the second marker in exactly 13.2 seconds, and the clock stops. That's 100 FPS, or x60 (seconds) = 6000 feet per minute, or x60 (minutes) =360,000 feet per hour which divided by 5280 changes it to 68.18 mph.
But all the LEO is doing is hitting a button to start the time and stop the time. The VASCAR spits out the average speed. Like I said, a fancy calculator.
