Desert Shield/Desert Storm Marine here. Things have changed since I went through boot camp (all other branches are basic training :p). When I joined back in 87 they could still get in your face, hit you, beat you etc. Joined when I was 22 and wasnt worried about the mental side. Like you it was the phsyical side I was worried about. I was the correct weight for my size but way out of shape.
"complete lack of individuality" ? Not a flame here. The ground side may be like that.. But the many grunts I knew, had a life besides ground pounding. Only way I would join was if I got the Air Wing side of the Marines. The Air Wing side of the Marines is way diffferent from the life of a grunt... "lack of individuality" 2 people is all you talked to??? I take it you never talked to any from the Air Wing side.. LoL good luck in Army basic training.. FYI thoose tanks are fing hot during the Desert Summers.. And fing cold during desert cold cold nights.....
And this is from my personal exprience... Not first hand accounts....
I thought about this thread when I saw this. Thought you were fucking with poor Elvis

hahaha air winger here we have nothing but individuals here. after the birds get fixed of course. we might not have bullets flying at us while were deployed but we still bust out asses every day over seas, 14 hour shifts every day 7 days a week for 7 months
I know full well that I will be going to Iraq. And honestly, I look forward to it, for at least one deployment. If you can't handle deploying, you have no business being in the army... as far as I'm concerned.
Well, 6 years for me. On a side note... did any of you know that the standard enlistment is only 3 years now? I'd never heard of that before in my life until we started working on my contract
Thank you :usa:
Ahhhhh cmon man, trying to leave me hanging here?
No, the 2 I talked to (when I specifically considering different branches) were both infantry... and they both much preferred being in the army infantry. I have also had "friends" that gone into the marines... and they came back even bigger toolbags then when they left(don't get me wrong, they were already toolbags before). I'm not all about that whole in your face cocky bullshit. Having pride isn't flaunting it.
And yea, I have a good idea of how easy I'm going to have it in basic compared to the "good ole days". Its kinda funny, my mom is the same age as you, but she joined in 84... I've got some work to do if I'm going to outrank what she retired at :D
All in all guys, thanks for the support. I've got my head in the game for when it comes to my training, and I know I can handle it. And I am NOT knocking the marines at all... At some point or another over in the sandbox, they are going to have my back, and I'm going to be proud of it.
Oh, and I was kinda cracking on elvis
Alright ladies and gentlemen, I'll cya in May! :D :usa:
Goodluck and thanks!!!
Give me a shout! lol
good luck buddy, today's your day!
Good luck with your enlistment! I have till the 27th of january till I ship out to Fort Leonard Wood for basic and AIT.
Good luck. Keep your head down and your gun up. When in doubt...RELOAD :)
Go Army
Hey fuckers!!!
Well, I just graduated the BMT part of my training... I'm still stuck here for another 7 weeks + 3 weeks for training on a Stryker, but I'll be working with the actual tanks finally... (and hopefully have my face in the dirt a little less)
In case any of you were wondering... the worst part of all this was fucking definately the weather. Kentucky fucking SUCKS. Even the people from up north were freezing their nuts off here... apparently when it gets between 0-15 degrees normal people GO THE FUCK INSIDE OUT OF THE 30 MPH WIND!!!
But yea, whatever, its all fucking good. I lost 25lbs, and 6 inches off my waist line so far... I feel skinny as FUCK. I can fit like a second damn person in the pants they issued me when I got here...
One last thing... this MtDew I'm drinking right now... is A-FUCKING-MAZING
