The white intake is painted ... it was cool for awhile until it started chipping off and holding dirt ... so I'm getting it powdercoated glossy black :sulk:
Any tips on how to make a white car look good under the hood? Seems this is the hardest color to work with under the hood....
it's good. my TPS pins on the inside were touching, making voltage spike and forcing the car to surge  everything is fixed though. she's a champ. i put a new water pump in, it's all pretty and clean, minus my skin hanging from the radiator fins from my knuckles catching it while holding the fan shroud back
i always forget to do that. i noticed the rubbing when i was rebuilding, put it where it was supposted to be when i finished and i just keep on forgetting about it cuz i keep cleaning the white off the lid haha
i used diluted simple green/water and a rag. and lots of it when i had the engine out
You're doing it wrong if it's dulling your paint/aluminum. If you do use simple green or any engine degreaser, follow it with a soap & water wash to remove it's corrosive remains (yes you can wet down an engine) just like you said, cover the alt (I cover the A/C too). Then wax your strut towers and you'll have protection on them from dirt/oil-you can just whipe it off with quick detailer then.
