love me some spicy meat sticks.
If anyone wants to send me some to try let me know. :food:
make my own venison jerky. I use the burger with the shooter and stuff called backwoods seasoning I get at gander mountain. It's pretty good stuff.
Do you need a dehydrator to make it or is there other ways?
you can do it in a smoker or I've done it in the oven set on 200 degrees. A dehydrator is the way to go though. I just have a little cheap model I paid $20-$30 for I think many years ago.
I don't have a smoker either. :sulk:
venison :D
As lean a cut as you can get. Ideally you want next to no fat on it. That's why venison works out so well because it has almost zero fat. Cut it in strips "with the grain" soak it overnight in some sort of marinade and then cook it in the oven for 4-5 hours at 200 degrees.
With beef I use Flank steak or if I'm feeling cheap London Broil.
I can tell you first hand if you have a local neighborhood meat market versus buying at the big grocery there is s difference in quality.
The London broil cut I will marinate for 48-36 hours cause it is tougher than the Flank which usually get 32 or so.
Make your marinate so it taste salty to you cause it will not penetrate the whole muscle.
Had to refresh this one after making some jerky last night. I tried a few differrent marinates in smaller batches. I di one with just Red Devil hot sauce added some garlic salt and crushed red peppers and it came out awesome!!

^^^Doesn't that take like 3 days to dehydrate? I'm not patient enough for that..
This batch was small thin strips. I pluged it in @ 3am when I was about to pass out. Woke up at 8 flipped pieces over and it was done @ 930. So that batch took 6 1/2 hours. Usually won't take more than 9 hours at the most.
Believe me I'm not patient at all either. But the way I love jerky it cost way too much to supply my demand.
I love to eat beef jerky, and buy it at gas stations often. I LOVE when someone brings me some homemade deer jerky, but I don't make it myself.
me, my friend and his dad go hunting, and what we get, we get it in jerky, OMFG Deer jerky is the shizznit, and my brother makes his own he just go's to wal-mart and buy some steak and made some with some spicy Jack Daniels sauce and it was AMAZING! its so much cheaper then buying jack links, dont get me wrong jack links is good but home made with jack daniels and deer jerky is better.
I remeber back in high school a friend of mine made the best deer jerky. I love jerky but its not cheap. I am going to get a dehydrater and try to make some. Damn I am wanting some beef jerky right now! Cam anyone tell me a good marinade for jerky? I heard Dales steak seasoning was good. I love the teriyaki jack links steak nuggets-wish I could make some jerky with that flavor. I also like the peppered jerky.
I have tried all these flavors but original and they were ALL GREAT!!
For the price ($7) you can't beat the flavor. I will add some fresh sliced garlic to most and some acidity from orange, pineapple,or lemon juice also.

I tried this for their Teriyaki and was OK. Not terrible but not the best. You might like the flavor of it............ I usually do my own Teriyaki. Just remember it needs to taste really salty when you taste your marinate or the meat will turn out plan and not what you want plus it spoils faster.

No problem here to help!:goodluck:
Hey-do you think one of those cheap wal mart dehydraters would be decent enough?
