LT4 SS on Ebay

I don't race mine so I don't care what the 1/4 times look like. As for the LS1 comparisons....I sold my 2002 SS for this. There was no comparison for me. I own a car that only 100 or so others are lucky to own. My satisfaction comes when I show up at the car shows and a crowd automatically forms around it. The collector status of this car is unbelievable. I had a 1970 Hemi Cuda owner tell me "boy, you better hang onto that thing". There is my satisfaction. I was also offered $45k for mine about 6 months ago, I didn't part with it. As far as all the nonsense being talked about "it isn't an LS1" or "they are slow", remember one thing.....long after many of the LS1 cars have been crushed and made into Toyotas, the LT4 SS will still be at the top of the collector car list.

To each his own I've owned an LT1 and an LS1 they are both nice cars and mod well. I'm glad you think so much of your LT4 SS but IMO you are absolutely crazy if you really turned down 45k but I seriously doubt that happened since you can buy one for under 30k if you look. That car won't be worth 45k in the next 100 years and it will never be on the top of any collector list. Don't get me wrong it's a very nice car and collectible but it's no 69 RS Z28 and never will be. Heck my 99 SS convertible is rarer then an 97 SS LT4 and I paid less then half of what someone paid for that car. I still like it though it's a very nice car. In the end people shouldn't be bashing either one if you love camaros how can you not love the LT1 and LS1 cars?

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you but the 45K offer was real. Out of modern day cars the LT4 SS will be at the top. I'm not comparing this to 69 ZL1 or Yenkos, I'm talking about newer collector cars. Its not about money to me. Let me know where you can find a pristine LT4 car for under 30K and I'll be all over it. The one on the Ebay ad was far from being the best one I have ever seen. Mine has 1,500 on the clock plus alot of documentation. Fact is many of these cars were bought beat a some even totalled. I will never own another new Camaro again. The new prototype just doesn't cut it. The LS1 is a great engine for its time. Many people keep hanging onto the LS1 like its Jesus' sandals. The fact is GM is producing newer engines like LS2, LS3 and LS7 in the new C6 that quite frankly make the LS1 look boring. LS1 F-Bodys are a dime a dozen. I opted for a car that is a little harder to find.

I wouldn't mind owning a LT-4 SS. I would buy one if I had the money.

I really don't see any 4th Gen Fbody as a collector car, but hey I never thought I'd see a 78 trans am being worth 20k either. I like the LT4s always have and I'd love to own a gran sport with one some day. I don't like the new camaros either but they will have an impact on the collectibility of all 4 Gen cars. Like I said earlier I am and always will be a camaro guy and I hate to hear people bashing one over the other so much.

You can not compare a car that is rare because of an engine, to a car that is rare because of the color or being a convertible! No comparison!

Sure you can. There are tons of examples of just that all over the collector car market. Cars that are rare and desirable because of color or being a convertible and others that are rare because of the engine or maybe an appearance package. An LT4 SS is a sweet car but it's not the rarest 4th Gen car around nor is it a 45k car. The 100th car produced with only 100 miles on it and full documentation is for sale and it's priced under that with no takers. I'm not saying my 99 ss converitble is worth more then his 97 nor is more desirable to a serious camaro collector but it is rarer that's an undeniable fact. I'm not bashing this car quite to the contrary I like it but people think their stuff is so much better and worth more then it really is.

you know what I like to do? drive 330 hp cars, no matter what they are. LT4 or LS1. rare or not rare. that's what I'm into. :)

You missed the point!

i know that alot comes into play when a car is deemed "collectible" or not, but here in the automotive world it has to do with rarity. and furthermore, people dont really care if you have a base ls1 with navy blue metallic paint AND the neon green convertible top. most of what makes cars collectibles is the very thing that powers them...the engine.

for instance....

why does a 66 mustang fastback in excellent shape with a pristine 289 only sell for maybe 20k when a ragged out, original 66 fastback with a 428cj bring in about 300,000?

its the engine that usually determines collectibility if it was an otherwise mass produced car.

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about because there was never a 66 fastback with a 428cj. The only came with 6 cylinders and 289s. I've been working old cars for years I know many collectors and while driveline can and do make a car collectible it's not the end all. A car is considered rare based on how many of it were produced not what powers it. Rare and collectibility are two entirely different things. I never once said my car was more collectible just rarer and it is plain and simple.

Here to use your example a 66 coupe with a 289hipo 4spd while very rare will only bring maybe 20k because coupes are not as desirable as a fastback or convertible. While a 66 convertible with a 289 2brl will bring closer to 30k assuming both are in excellent condition and there are 10,000s more convertibles with 2brls then coupes with the hipo motor. There are tons and tons of examples of this I could go on forever.

Don't spout off about stuff you know nothing about.

This thread is way off track the LT4 SS is a sweet car and while I would never pay 45k for one I would love to own one. What is crap is that one guy with one decides to bash all the LS1s out there and it's no where near as collectible or valuable as he thinks it is. A car can be rare as hell but it's only as collecitble and valuable as the market dictates.

What point did I miss? Rarity is based on units produced plain and simple. Value and collectibility are based on the market I never debated that. My main point is big whop about and LT4 SS it's a nice car that's collectible but that's the end of it. It's not on the top of any collectors list, it's not worth 45k nor should it be compared to a 70 cuda with a 426hemi.

There were only 3XX convertible SSs made in 99. Only 76 I believe had a 6spd and of those maybe 10% were red with neutral top and interior. So I have what is most likely one of maybe 10 SS 6spd verts with that color combo which makes it very rare. I have an SLP production sheet at home somewhere with all the exact numbers for SSs. Now and I'LL SAY THIS AGAIN I AM NOT COMPARING THE VALUE OR COLLECTIBILTY OF MY CAR TO AN LT4SS. :)

well, if you look at it that way, all SS's are rare. mine's a red hardtop with a neutral leather interior.

Big deal! Its all about the engine! Thats my whole point! Who gives a F about red with neutral top! I car more about whats under the hood as most people do, apposed to what color the hood is!

Yes you are! It's like talkin up your Honda 4 door cause they they only made 10 with shit brown paint jobs.

IMO the LT4 SS is of the most rare out there being it had all of the combined packages, Hardtop, color scheme, 6spd and the most rare engine offered in the SS. In my eyes theres not much better than the retro theme of them as well as modern power and the collectability. I will someday have one in my stable next to a ZR1 (gotta love the LT5)
