thats a decent price. much better than what i paid.
did em myself, w ory and full borla in about 4 hrs. i used the header bolts that have the wire going thru to keeps them from backing off.
Well, Sawzall Where Needed. But A Hacksaw Will Do If Thats All You Have.
ahhhh:Ohno: a hacksaw would blow...i tried and gave up..my arm was gonna fall off...but try not to hack up the y pipe and cats and such..there worth money..i hacked up my stock ls1 exhaust only to find people selling the setup for 75 bucks...
I would only use a sawzall to remove the stock catback. I used liquid wrench and just removed all the bolts from the stock manifolds and y-pipe. The only place I could see you needing to cut something is if you can get the stock manifolds off the heads, but not get the y-pipe disconnected from the manifolds. Then I guess you could cut the y-pipe and drop everything out from the bottom.
The catback needs 2 cuts, one after the cat on the I-pipe and then one for over the axle.
I replaced head gaskets on my car 1.5 years ago and the stock manfolds came off easy. So I won't have a problem with the manifolds.
I have a factory muffler installed right now. I do like the sound of it, and it has a thumb sized jumper pipe that is welded to the input pipe of the muffler and then brigded to one of the exit pipes on the same side of the muffler. So, I think the factory muffler is not really causing a huge resistance in the flow but maybe some, so my concern about removing the muffler has not been a pressing issue yet. I have a rear valence I want to install but that's going to take special tips. I thought about buying a Borla since its easy to assemble, but I don't want to buy any duplicate tips like the ones that come with the Borla since I need to buy the CME tips for my rear valence. Any suggestions on the easiest way to proceed without have to get shop help? I just want to mount it all myself with no welding.
I don't understand what you mean by a jumper pipe?
So its maybe 3 thumbs wide.. not 1. thought it was smaller.

That is interesting. I have never seen anyone do that to a system like that. I bet it sounds pretty good.
ya.. not very loud.. in fact its pretty quiet but it sounds good.. just has a nice tone and probably very little resistance from the muff.
LT-1 F-Body stock mufflers, IMO, sound good to begin with!
(1) Cut your tips off.
(2) Purchase (2) 90 degree mandrel bends, 3' of tubing, and 8 clamps
You may need some of the pipe expanded. I can get you all of this stuff and expand the pipe ends. I just need all of the measurements.
If you're going with CME from SLP, you'll also need the 90* adapter pipes. Pretty much should fit any catback with split rear exit, but the distance between the rear pipes might vary, so you may need to adjust the pipes accordingly. Because SLP made the CME adapters to fit stock exhaust or their Loudmouth exhaust. But I'm sure it can be made to fit other systems as well.
Whats a 90* adapter pipe?
The pipes that will make the CME work. You have to curve them into the center. He said he had the tips, I didn't know if he had the adapter pipes.

He doesn't have the tips. He has the valence.
Where did you find that pic?
Right. But he's planning on buying the tips, so I'm just letting him know what else he might need.
I was thinking about keeping the stock muffler with that jumper tube and keeping the stock sized pipe. I suppose that is 2.5". The tips I have now are just larger tips that was welded to the existing pipes. But I think those pipes were cut short then the tips welded on. I guess the ORY is 3" from factory? Thats fine but I'll leave the 2.5" pipes coming out the muffler. So just trying to figure out which pipes need to be expaned to slide over the other pipes and clamped. And where to cut it.. Will probably do just the headers and the Y pipe first then mess with the tips later. So not sure which pipe has to be expanded.. the Y pipe or the headers or the pipe going to the back. It would be hard expanding the pipe going to the back since its already on the car. And I doubt header should be expanded on the ORY end. Gee I dont even know which headers I wanna buy. I am going to take these dang eibachs off since I drag easily and go with WS6 springs or something like that so I get get a bit more height first.. and set the dang alignment.. haha So I have a crap load of stuff to do. Oh ya, I still have not fixed the air bag light but I did install my new rack and pinion. feels much better and only 2 turns lock to lock. Also I dont think slp sells the tips I want anymore.. So I would get some that some guy builds and sells on ebay.
You usually don't need to expand any pipes. Most copmanies have a matching Y-pipe to go with their headers. You may need to expand and cut the catback to line up with the y-pipe correctly. But if you're going with headers and a Y-pipe, you might as well complete the ensemble with a new catback.
