The hood clearcoat is your fault. The clearcoat on my '99 hood was great when I took it off last year. lol. That's what happens when paint is not maintained properly by you or the previous owners. :hi:

Correct. I'm lucky that my roof is pewter... Hides everything, including the odd dimples that ooze oily liquid when popped with a needle. Bad thing is it's a hardtop, which is more expensive to replace than the t-top roof panels.

yeah. The year out here in San Diego has been hard on it. Th apartment complex has no shade anywhere, and we're not allowe to work on our cars either. So the poor thing has suffered. But so has the graphics. It will be getting a paintjob in the semi near future. Just want to lock down where I'm going to be for more than 6 mo tha before I do that.

I had my sail panel replaced by GM. 3year/36,000 warranty had expired but got them to fix it under the 6 year corrosion warranty. (no chance of that either now) Sucks you can't even buy them anymore.

His fault? This is not the 1st time I've read about WS6/SS hoods having this issue. It is aftermarket paint after all... (By SLP not GM) :rolleyes:

ASC, not SLP.
Of course, I could be wrong too, it could be GM/ASC, or GM.
But I know it was NOT SLP.
ASC did the WS6 conversion on the late 4th-gen cars.

SLP did not touch the WS6s, like you mentioned. ASC got the WS6, SLP got the Firehawks.

ASC may make the hoods but SLP did the conversions and painting I believe, could be wrong tho. Either way, still not factory GM paint on the hoods.

I even repainted my car 3 coats of primer still bubbles... GM should have replace them

It's been said many times, ..., Repainting will NOT cure/fix the problem.
Remove & Replace is the only way to get the old glue out of there, & that is the cause.

And if you got in there in time of the 3yr/36k, GM did replace some.
It's way too late now tho, unless you find a really nice GM dealer to work with, ..., wait, what did I just say?

Another option is to vinyl wrap the panel.

GM Parts Direct recently confirmed in another thread that the roof panel has been discontinued. :(

112,000 on mine and no signs of bubbling.

Anybody actually vinyl wrap one?

There is a thread around here somewhere where someone had mentioned doing that. I don't think the idea went over very well as I recall. Or, maybe he had bought a car that arleady had it done :shrug:

I tried finding it for you, but can't seem to. It was at least a year ago. I think it was a green Camaro.

The idea of vinyl wrap hit me a few days ago when i saw this jacked up four door f-250. It was all tricked out and the entire body was in V wrap. If it were not for all the writing on it, you could not tell it was V wrap. I need to find a place, get a price and see the product. if it's all good, it's going on.

Ooooo, that kind of vinyl wrap? I was thinking vinyl as in like leather. I wouldn't think it would help because the panel would still bubble up and would be a noticeable defect in that area.

i dont like the idea of a half assed repair. hopefully them will release licensing so they can be reproduced. my 95 was rear clipped with a 98 mine went to shit this summer. it did make it 3 years before the bubles showed there ugly heads

From build date of May 98

I replaced mine (hard top) this time last year.
My dealer told me it was one of the last GM had it stock when I got it.
Took 6 wks to come from Canada.
