True, there is literally no downside to DI. More power, better mpgs, ability to run a high comp ratio just as safely. With DI they could could literally sell a 10 to 1 comp ratio ls series engine with a turbo or supercharger and still make it factory reliable.

Well there IS a downside. Though it's not in driveability or performance. It's more complex than port injection. It runs at MUCH higher Psi and injects into the combustion chamber rather than just before the valves. While this helps to cool the charge and allow higher compression it also means the parts must be made to much higher tolerances. More complexity = more $$$. Though tuners will have a field day with injector pulse width and timing. In DI you have much better control over fuel delivery and aftermarket injectors can be made with spray patterns designed specifically to work with certain pistons to create the most power. Example of this can be seen in the new Ecoboost motors from ford.... take a look at those pistons!!!

DI is certainly a wonderful development and I'm really excited about it.... here's hoping we can adapt the next gen small block for use in our f-body's

they've actually been running DI in snowmobiles for a couple years now. the fuel economy is nuts

Alot of cars have had DI for years. Speed 3 and 6 have had it since 06 or 07, cobalt SS has it, porsche uses it, Audi, pretty much everyone is switching over to it.

bombardier uses it on 2 strokes. they get twice the fuel economy as a 4 stroke and up to 3x more than an older style efi 2 stroke

Why would you change your ecm? You plan on going to big stuff 3 for 800+hp or what? If your staying under 550 there is no need to..... Huge waste of money.

well from what i've heard 98s arent as tuneable as 99+, if i can get it with the motor then nbd

Stop listening to myths/rumors/inexperienced nonsense.

98s can be tuned just fine. They have a different plug than the 99-02 models, so it just takes a different connection, thats all.

98 ECM's are slightly more difficult to tune but a good tuner should not have a problem.

But if you did decide to change your ECM then the entire harness needs to changed aswell.
