Who would you rather give your money to. Car number one was designed by Americans at an american design studio. It was then built in an American factory by Americans and shipped via American car carrier to an American dealership and sold to an American consumer.
Car number 2 was designed in a european design studio by europeans. It was then built in mexico by mexicans and shipped via mexican car carrier or rail to an American car dealer then bought by an American.
For those keeping score car 1 is the Mercedes ML and car number 2 is the upcoming Ford Fiesta. In the case of the MB, Germany spent Euros on American workers to design a truck specifically for the American market. Those Euros stayed here in the US where the MB subsidiary performed the construction of their factory the design of the vehicle as well as the assembly distribution and dealer network. all investment in america and americans. Flip the coin and that blue oval beauty that is the Fiesta ends up being a capital outflow of dollars. Ford realizes that their North American operations have no truly competitive small car yet Ford Europe sells amazing small cars. Well ford NA decides to spend US R&D money on americanizing that euro product, a captial outflow of US money. They award a plant in mexico the task of assembling these parts for the US bound Fiesta, a capital outflow only so Ford can hope to turn a profit on a small car and reinvest those earned dollars in foreign expenditures.
My point is, don't look at the badge on the hood. Look at the supply chain. Who designed built shipped and sold that car. Follow the money not the brand.
Note: I am not trying to bash Ford. I believe that at the moment Ford is building some of the most impressive stylish and capable mass consumption models on the road. their performance as a company shows that the rest of the country feels the same way about the blue oval. Remember not all models are built the way the fiesta is. also not all MB's are american designed and built. This truly is a global economy and to find a car that is truly "American" is not as easy as looking at the emblem is my point.
end rant. {gets off soapbox}
All you nuts bitching about buying American made cars that own a car designed in Europe and built in Canada, just crack my ass up. :lol:
designed in europe huh
ORLY? Knew the built in canada part, were they really designed across the pond? Holden once again played a huge part in redesigning the already australian platform for the new camaro
I was hit a few months ago. I pulled forward from a stop and had to stop again because a speeder flew by and I didn't want to get T-boned on my left side. Woman behind me couldn't react in time but it was a light bump and I didn't have any damage on the rear bumper cover. She had a bent front plate and frame though. Here in NJ, almost EVERYONE is distracted on the roads. If there is an MVA, there is a traffic jam from all the rubber-neckers. It's almost like being nosy is a way of life here and us car nuts get caught in the middle.
That's what I've read before. A design based out of Europe for the 'California Camaro' concept. From this, the design of the 4th generation model was born.
