because 9s are absurdly hard to get into...especially for a heavier car with IRS

Is strange or moser making SRA replacements for the 2010 SS's yet? If not I'd imagine that'd be a worthwhile swap for the drag racing crowd.
Why not? With 560whp and the drivetrain/ suspension to back them with weight reduction 9s shouldnt be out of the question at all. 4000lbs cars with 560whp and the right drivetrain/suspension can get low to mid 10s. It doesnt take that much power to hit 9s, there is a local guy with a camaro stripped to 2800lbs without the driver, hit a 9.8 @ 135ishmph with only 470whp, its a N/A top end swapped ls1, stock bottom end. Becasue he has that car setup to hook hard and the drivetrain to handle it, 4xxx stall.
It's not as easy as it sounds, but it's probably not a far stretch to do what you are saying.
My chevelle made 638 flywheel hp on a DTS dyno without any accessories and it weighs 4,108 lbs with me in it. With a small 275 drag radial and through the mufflers it went 11.40 at 118 mph.
Never had it on a chassis dyno but I'm sure it's no dyno queen in that department pushing through a 400 turbo, 3600 stall and a 12 bolt. Not to mention turning a power steering pump, water pump etc...
If I'm lucky I might see 500rwhp, but that's not really a concern for me. The overall setup is what makes the car run the way it does.
I strolled through some 2011 threads on the stang boards and they have put up some good numbers. Stock they're making 370s and with just a tune around 400rwhp. There are a high 10 bolt on car, high 10 with a 100 shot, and of coarse the 9 second one with a 275 shot.
I'm just curious how many passes it will be able to make before it blows. Also, ford is coming out with a roots blower as well as the other manufacturers in the very near future. They're claiming around 550rwhp.
A 275 shot is a pretty hefty dose if all at once. A progressive controller would be the way to go, much easier on the engine and easier to hook on a small tire.
If done that way and a safe tune, the car could last a long time.
If they are throwing it in there all at once on stock internals I'd have my fingers crossed. It will be interesting to keep an eye on for sure. I'm liking what ford has done. A relatively quick naturally aspirated car with a solid axle is the kind of car I'd want to buy.
I forget, does it have oil jets for the bottom of the piston? It seems like the engine was ready incase they wanted to go with boost, without actually using boost.
1. 4-bolt nodular iron main caps with 2 side bolts (Basically a 6-bolt main like an LSx motor)
2. Forged crankshaft
3. Piston squirters to cool the pistons
4. crossover coolant passage re-routed through the block instead of the intake to cool the intake better.
5. Forged powdered metal rods
6. hypereutectic pistons
7. The base 5.0 cylinder heads outflow the GT500 heads by 4 percent
8. From 3750rpm-6500rpm the motor is over 100% volumetric efficiency. At peak torque it is at 110 percent.
9. 8-quart oil capacity with a built in windage tray.
fine ford wats to upgrade so can I http://www.lingenfelter.com/engine-p...7-cid-ls1-70-l
:firedevil:
but who looks better and can go faster hmmmmm
Please don't post direct links to non sponsors :)
I didn't do it........ I swear :hide:
DAMMIT that would be me
guess ill have to call john up and make him sponsor us :D
John who?
Oh, got it. I thought you meant John Lingenfelter (RIP)
Didnt say it would be easy, but getting all the 1/4mile potential out of a car rarely is. Someone said they have yet to see a stock bottom end 5th gen hit 9s. That bottom end has already proven to hold 630whp, and 630whp is more than enough to get a car into the 9s if someone or some shop would setup the rest of the car.
THANK YOU! i love how these "speed" shops idea of a track camaro is a S/C, a body kit, lowering springs and some different 19s or 20" rims ..and of course some custom badges.
i sure hope GM gets off their ass and offers a true track package. like some aggressive gearing, 16-17" lightweight wheels with good wide rubber on it. some poly bushings, a special tune, and some accessory delete option on the interior.
id love to see a camaro with the cobra R ideology.
i believe most of that comes from no airbags etc ..and i believe both the maro and the challenger have all those damn airbags. on top of that no A/C and such...i just cant wait for the gen 6 on the new lighter platform ..im feeling good about the camaro here in a few years
Beleive it not Ford didnt put all they have into the '11. My friends dad use to race abck in the 80's and stopped for a while after some misfortunes. Well he bought a gt500 just too fool around with. He end up putting some of his own ideas into the car and it threw some codes and wouldnt pass emissions. he called ford and ford couldnt believe the numbers he was making without a cam or headers. FORD sent 2 engineers from Detroit to his house check out his car and paid for the dyno and couldnt believe they're eyes. The engineers are offering to use his upgrades in the 2012 stang. All I'm saying is look for the name McKay in articles next year, the mans an automotive genius.
On a side note. everyone can bitch and gripe but its about time we got some competition, theyve been called shistangs for a while for a reason, I commend a good rival. im stickin with my 00 ws6, cause when it comes down to a 5.0 beating a stock ws6 by a second I feel pretty good knowing Nymph (thats what I named her) can almost keep up with fords glory child.
Pretty neat vid. I wonder what all they removed to drop weight. I noticed the fogs were gone between the dyno and run. Curious if they gutted a lot of the car and still call it stock'ish.
thread from the dead
holy crap
I wish it wasn't a ford
I hear you on that, but you have to remember that this is the "new" ford. Old Ford was stuff like the shitty 3.0 OHV Taurus, 6.0 Powerstroke, 4.0 Exploders, and 215HP V8 Mustangs. Vehicles that many people think of when they think of Ford. Myself included.
New Ford is the Edge, Fusion, new F-150, 5.0 Mustang, ect.
In all seriousness they should get an award for largest improvement in product design and quality over the last 10 years. Its been drastic.
Awesome
Just came across this...new 5.0 makes 507rwhp with heads/cams and a boss intake. Honestly with the modulars of the past I would not have guessed it could make that much in na form.

I have nothing against ford ( I own one, albiet a classic though) I'm impressed with the numbers these new 5.0's are making. My neighbor bought one, nice running car. If I were on the market for a new ride, I'd look at both the 5.0 and challenger pretty hard. New camaros don't do much for me. That's coming from a die hard GM guy.
Nice. Might be time for another Pony in the stable.
