Hardcore paint work

so my paint job is not the best in the world, i would love to repaint the car, but i cant afford it. so my best option is to work with what ive got.

Theres some white shit on my bumper, looks like bug splatters, but after a year of scrubbing, theyre still present. a good polishing worked them down some, but not all the way. ive also got some nice chips taken out of my hood. For the most part everything else is fine, i just have my fair share of fine scratches and swirl marks. The thing that bothers me the most is that I don't get that "wet" look, sure i can see my reflection just fine, but not like a mirror.

So heres my plan im gonna try to pull off here in 2 weeks or so.

First im going to hopefully remove my side moldings, I think my clear might be peeling where they are glued, if so, im leaving them.
wash the shit out of it with Dawn.
Claybar
Wash the shit out of it with Dawn, again.
A good solid polishing.
Wash the shit out of it with Daw, again.
Then add a serious waxing job.

Ok so ive claybared before, a year ago, i feel pretty confident with it. Ive polished once, i feel fairly proficient. Ive waxed many times. always with a paste. and i think ive been using too much, last time i cut back, looked better.

I have one of those oscillating buffers. what I'm wanting to know is if anyone has tips or advice on techniques, products, or specific brands, whatever. thanks

Zymol will give it the wet look.............$13 @ wal-mart...............I think dawn works to good, but for sure dont use it after the polish

You don't want to wash it 3 times with Dawn. Wash it the first time with Dawn and stop with the Dawn.

That's hilarious! :lol:

Menzerna polishes is what I would recommend. Do you have the name brand of your orbital polisher?
If it's one of those you can get at a parts store it may not have the necessary power to work the defects out on an f-body

Ive just been hoping to get rear ended real good, or maybe side swiped, make sure enough panels get damaged to support getting a whole new paint job.

I just went out and washed my car, theres some oily shit on the fender behind my rear wheels, it wont come off. i noticed it during washing, rubbed it real good, and it wasn't till after i had dried it off i noticed it was still there.

I doubt claybar will completely remove that. Try some WD-40, wash, and then cleaner wax or polish followed by a wax or sealant...

It may be tire shine, It happened to me once. Take a microfiber towel and some Meguiars quick detailer and rub it for a bit while keeping it a bit moist.

im using a new one...black magic gel. I didnt think i put it on that thick, but my tires def looked like they were covered in vasoline. it says leave 20 mins to protect slinging, i left it over night.

My tires stick out just enough that if it did sling, it'd only get on that spot.

But it rained today, ofcourse it did, i washed my car yesterday. so i just pulled it in the garage and hand dried it, i think most of it came off.

I hate when it slings all over the ceiling fan! o wait..... nevermind.

^ This guy knows what he is talking about. Taught me alot about paint correction. I had alot of the same issues as you-swirls,oxidation,scratches- Tried a few different polishes with decent results. Finally broke down and invested in Menzerna Super intensive polish and Menzerna Nano polish. SIP is used first followed by Nano-which is a finishing polish. Used a Porter Cable 7424 buffer with a white Lake Country foam pad for each polish. The results were amazing! The paint was revived and looked almost new again. Mercedes uses the Menzerna polishes. Well worth the money (around $90 for the 2 polishes but they come in 32oz. bottles which will do alot of cars) Then - finished it off with Pinnacle souveran paste wax. Needless to say - wont be getting my car repainted for a while. Good luck!

I agree- washing with Dawn is kind of hard on the paint so you dont want to do it more than one time.

What happened to everybody using McGuire's polish, i had always heard that was the best.

Ive used Megiuars swirl remover, glaze and light cutting polish and I really like them. They are also cheap as well which is a nice plus.
