Problem With SLP STB for TA

So I ordered a strut tower bar from SLP last week. It came in Monday and I tried to put it on. I am having issues with it going down. I can get one side down but the other side won't go down because of the threads on the strut bolts. I called SLP today to talk to them about it. They said I should try to make the car flex by either jacking it up on one side or unflex it by jacking it up by the crossmember. Well neither worked. I tried to call them back but they closed already. Anyone else have any issues with their STB from these guys? I have put these in before on imports in the front and rear and didn't have to do this. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to call them tomorrow and see about getting my money back and buying an adjustable one.

Hmmm...I don't know about this. The SLP STB should be a direct fit and bolt-on without having to flex or unflex your car whatsoever. I may be wrong, but personally, I don't agree with their recommendations of flexing/unflexing your car. This seems like a bad idea to jack your car up on those points mentioned & try to torque/twist your car to fit the STB!!!

That SLP pile of shit sits REALLY low compared to others.
Even worse with prothane motor mounts.

I will take pictures of it tomorrow. In a nut shell it doesn't fit like it is supposed to. I followed the directions to get the bar on evenly and it should go down. Well on my car if the bar is put on to the strut bolts evenly, then the first threads of the strut bolts stop it from going down on both sides. I am going to call them tomorrow and see WTF is up with this and get my money back for an adjustable one from someone else, or use the money I paid for this to go towards the bilstein shocks I ordered from them that are on back order.

Get your money back and stop ordering from SLP.

I have the SLP and it went on without a hitch. You have to put both sides in at one time, kinda like when you were a kid and putting a baseball card in a plastic sleeve....only worked when you put it in straight, not one side first, then the other. This is essentially the same thing, put both sides in at once, get a friend to help you, and if need be, both you and your friend flex the crap out of the bar to make it fit! Good luck!

I tried to put it on with both sides at the same time but then both side are stuck on the first threads of the strut bolts. I even had my wife help me keep it even as we lowered it down to the bolt and still nothing. If need be I could get my dremel out and open them up that last 1/16 inch and get it down. I would prefer not to but depending on what they say tomorrow. I will take some pictures tomorrow after I get up in the afternoon and post them on here for better reference.

i say you need to just jack the whole thing up a little bit. It sounds like you have some slightly worn springs and they are making the whole thing more a bit. Just a suggestion.

These are the different ways I tried to jack it up today trying to get it to work. All epic failures.

Engine cross member
Driver side under the door
Driver side lower control arm closer to the cross member
Driver side lower control arm right against the wheel

So I called them today and they said I should have someone lean on the center of the STB and that sometimes some cars have a little bit of distortion to them. I personally never heard or need to have anyone do this. I am not going to screw up my strut bolts just so these yahoo`s can not have to worry about having their products sent back. One of my co-workers has a 2000 Camaro and I am going to see if it fits on his or not.

So I got the Dremel after the strut bolt slots on the bar. I shaved out that last little bit of needed clearance. I was able to start one nut on each side and then get it down, but like others and their SLP bars the paint flaked off. I think all they put on there is high temp paint and not powder coating.

I never heard of anyone having to jack the car up to put the bar on. I think you should send it back and get another one. It should just go right on. I have had 4 Z's and all four bars just went straight on. SEND IT BACK.
