How to ID year of LS1
I just bought a used 2006 Suspensions Unlimited sand car with LS1 engine. Damn she flys! But looking ahead to the parts buying phase, how do I know what to tell the Auto Zone and Kragen guys when they say "What year is it?" Is there a number on the motor that will ID the year of the motor and/or give me more info that will assist in getting the right parts?

I believe the only differences in years is...
98-99 LS1 intake manifold and more aggressive cam
00-02 LS6 intake manifold and less aggressive cam
Also, to give you a better idea on the year, the LS6 manifolds do not have EGR. I thought there was a casting number on the block but I'm honestly not sure. (I've never looked) If you do find one I bet you can call up to a GM dealership and ask if they can look up a car by the block casting number.

The engine should have the vin on it from the vehicle it came from.. check the 10th digit.
02=2
01=1
00=Y
99=X
98=W
etc.

another easy way.. Just look for EGR.. If it doesn't have one then its 01-02.. if it does then 98-00... That should help.. the # on the block are on the cylinder head driver said in the back.
