Gear Ratios?
ok so as i continue my never ending quest of knowlege about well cars basicly, ive come across gear rations such as 3.43 or 3.75 or somethin. what exactly does all that mean? im pretty decent at math so if theres like a formula or some way to remember that would work too. thanks!

A 3.42 rear gear ratio: It will take the driveshaft 3.42 times to rotate before the tires will rotate once. The lower the number the longer you will have between gear shifts and the higher your top speed will be. A higher number will help you accelerate quicker but will have a lower top speed.

At the very top of this forum there is a thread called REAR END FAQ. Your question is answered there....
