Does anyone know if the LS2 or LS6 crate engine will slide right in a 1998 TA A4 WS6 without any modifications? These engines are about 6k or 7k. Would it be cheaper to have the LS1 rebuilt?

Go all the way and drop in a LS7!!!!!!!!!!!!:nana:
I would, but the LS7 is around $14,500 wholesale...
LS6 and LS2 is much more affordable.
yeah a LS7 would be sick but they're like 12k!
Get the LS1 rebuilt but bored and stroked out!
LS6 is a direct bolt in and will run on the F-body PCM but it will need to be tuned. The LS2 will also bolt in but requires a harness addition for the Cam and Knock sensors. and you need to get an LS2 with a 24X reluctor so it will run off your PCM. `05 Vette and all GTO and TB SS LS2's will work but like the LS6 will require a tune to see full potential.
IMO the LS2 is the way to go cause it's a better foundation for future mods
I would probably look into a stroker 383 LS6.
Shortblock assembled would be $3000-3500.
If my options are LS6 or LS2...I would go LS6.
Only the LS2 can go to 402.
The LS2 is basicaly a larger displacement (364) LS6. It uses the LS6 heads (minus the lightweight Valves) the `01 385HP LS6 Cam and if you swap the LS2 intake for the better LS6 intake you have a 425 HP engine to start with. It also has a 4" bore so it will except the better L92/LS3 heads.
I do agree the LS2 is a better starting point motor than the LS6.
But if I were going to put one of the two in my car, I would go LS6. Ease in of install with the PCM, better (or same) stock power.
Not sure of price.
Check out our sponsors though, there are some impressive pricing on shortblocks for strokers. :yup:
I have a 98 TA.. I put in a 05 ' LS2 when my LS1 went.. If You do go with the LS2.. be sure you get the 24X reluctor. You also need the cam sensor wire harness as all of this was stated above . I'm have the LS6 intake , TR 230 cam , 3200 stall,3:42 gear , A4 tranny , Lt headers , off road Y-pipe & GMMG exhaust. The bestI did on Dyno 435hp ...
If I could have I would have gone with the LS7 .
Keep in mind the throttle body of the LS2 is a drive-by-wire, and your car is most likely cable. So you won't be able to use the throttle body of the LS2 you're getting. Unless you swap out the computer.....
That being said, I'm putting an LS2 crate motor from GM Performance into my 2000 Z28, and I'm also gonna swap out the intake manifold to something like the Typhoon. I'll know tomorrow.
Obviously, my .02 says to go LS2.
And make certain you get the GM Performance engine covers so the whole thing looks nice in your engine bay. :worship:
