Front of Engine
Does anyone have good instrustions on taking out the timing chain and etc.. The shop says there is some noise coming from my timing chain... if it is the case me and my dad are engine savy and wanna do it ourselves... i know it will take a couple of weekends to do it but we are determined to do it..

ls1howto.com has a good write up on doing a cam swap, and for the instructions you need, they are in there.

yeah, check out ls1howto.com and look at the cam swap write up. That'll basically tell you what you need to do. Pretty simple and if you and your dad are "engine savy" you can get it done in a day.
I would recommend getting all of your stuff together ahead of time. Look at making a balancer removal/install tool. Easy and cheap to make and good insurance against ruining the threads in your crank when installing your balancer. Since you have a 98 I would also look at swapping the oil pump out while you're in there. You'll have it off anyhow. Might as well go to a ported LS6 pump. Not real expensive. Maybe think about an underdrive pulley too since you'll have the car torn down that far.

ya i heard about that ported LS6 pump and also a LS2 Chain... i am also looking for a decent prices cam to put in if i am in there already... what you all think??
-
well, that means you'll want to do springs and pushrods too. Stock springs really aren't good for anything past stock. It would suck to have the engine down that far and not change the cam but springs and pushrods are pretty much required for a bigger than stock cam.

How the heck are they hearing a problem with the timing chain?
