Computer help needed!!!!!

A buddy just gave me a decent computer that works for most part. The computer says its connected to the router and the router says the computer is online.........now the odd part......it wont connect to interwebz.....WTF? I tested the line with my old computer(one im on right now).....works fine. I also tried an aftermarket networking card....still same crap.....
no server found
Connected 100 mps

i dont get it.........it worked for a few days and now it basically took a crap

specs......
emachine
2.66ghz
512mb ram
40gb hard drive
..............
no DVD player.....no burner.....a barebones computer for free,,,,,

should i reformat the hd? how do i do this????

ummmmmm....no....nothing works internet related
aim, internet expolder, firefox, etc......all no working! :Pw:

So the router isn't letting it out. Check your router settings to make sure it's not blocking the computer from seeing the web.

The thing is i just switched out computers.......the tower only.....im using my old computer on the line that my new computer wont work on........get my drift?:news:

Yup.

The way I set it is either:

1) The router is blocking your new computer
2) The router isn't giving the correct configuration information to the computer
3) The computer isn't setup to get the information correctly

Kind of hard to diagnosis more from here though.

Proper drivers for the NIC card?

i just wish i could hit the back button on it.....it worked flawless til the GF came over and jumped on download.com and DL'd a copy of "limewire"......i freaked out after she tells me this and i delete it......well next day computer boots up and aim and firefox says server error....im like NOOOOOOOOOOO dammit:brick:

Press F8.
Select Command Prompt.
Type: "Format c:"
Get beer.
Go outside.
Enjoy life without technological problems.

Reset the cable and router stillno work connect to just cable modem then reset the modem

its dsl.....but heres the thing....old computer works fine on it...just slower


new computer--------says server error, server not found, or firefox can not find server for google.com


i hope i can fix it and not have to dump the hd and start over.........pain in ass

Might have to install the correct driver like stated above. Did the DSL modem come with an installation CD? Also what kind of computer is it and what format is it running on?

start menu
run
'cmd' enter
/ipconfig release
/ipconfig renew

that might get ya online.

ive had a "few mac's....."
ive thrown them all away pretty much. Only one left is a iMAC lol......hate them damn things....hell the ipod i had shit out on me.......mac support...oh jeez that was almost fun

let me get to a normal pc I'm on my iPhone it won't be you hd it'll be windows or the hardware u can always go to system restore and restore it to the eairlest time possible sometimes that works

tried system restore........only went back a day or so.....so no dice.......
im gonna hook it up tomorrow and try sum thing you guys brought up!
