dont really know the prices of these things, and what they can do as for options besides looking at codes, but...
i drive third gen. me r-tard.
There are a million different scanners and a million different cables, cords, thingy-a-bobbies you can buy for each scanner.... Unless you are planning on charging people to scan for codes etc and diagnose ( People I know, or heard of, charge 80 bucks just to hook the scanner up. ) then why buy one????? waste of money unless your a dealership, repair shop, etc. The HIGH end one will give you histo graphs, real time graphs, show you/ tell you all neat things about your sensors, but they are thousands of dollars. They are indeed, very fucking cool, and very very cool if you have uber money.
Save your cash, use autocrap to see your codes, OR buy a 120$ CODE scanner from Matco.... and put the rest to mods...
an Auto Zone scanner will just read the code(s), but not delete them. you can get a scanner/code/CEL deleter/clearer for around $150 on Ebay...
for example, i have this scanner/code deleter and CEL clearer. if you clear the codes and they rear appear then you do have an issue that needs to be addressed...

the autozone here can read as well as delete them. catch is their not supposed to. this is why u get to know one of them, then they will usually clear them for you.
Last time I needed to do that I went to a Checkers Auto Parts. They told me I had to scan it myself since they weren't allowed to. Made it nice and easy to clear the codes too. I don't see a reason to buy one when you can use one for free.
my dad bought a code scanner from advanced for 80. Its been used alot by me and my friends haha.
thans alot everyone, i will just keep getting freen scans by auto zone, but if a good deal comes along i just might grab it.
