I'd would definatley use a double roller with that kind of power. Looks like 2 chains side by side is the only difference in looks. A double-roller should come with a spacer to space out the oil pump from the chain. Price is probably not that much different plus you will have that extra piece of mind.
It is a matter of preference some are using the LS2 chain successfully as it is stronger and hevier duty than the stock LS1/LS6. I personally have the double and it is stout so to me it gives me an extra sense of security. I would say if it is a daily driver with the occasional blast on the highway the single is probably going to be fine if you this is a track toy also that will see road racing, auto-Xing or weekly dragstrips you might want to get the heftier double roller. MY .02
Go with the LS2. Aftermarket double rollers can cause all sorts of interference problems. The LS2 chain is cheap, readily available from any GM dealer, much stronger, and fits on the stock LS1 sprockets.
While it is true that a double roller can cause interferance problems during installation, they FAR outweight that small pain in the ass for the rest of the time you own the car. IF you are going to be running a big number cam, again a big number cam now, or in the future, go with the double roller, if you're just looking for durability, go with the LS2. But consider that the double will NOT stretch nearly as much as a single, keeping your precious (cam) timing longer, that's much more important to some than others..read those with big number cams. nuff said!
I bought the SLP double roller for the 408 but we could never get that sum biatch to line up...so I just went with the LS2 chain.....I'm way over 500HP :)
I used the rollermaster and had no problems at all installing or lining it up.
I personally used Comp's double roller with no prob's either
I used a double roller and it is definatly doing its job but I do have to say I would have rather just saved my money and went for an LS2 chain. The double roller just made my cam install more difficult than it had to be since you have to shim the oil pump to make it clear the chain and then after I got the oil pump to clear the chain I ended up having to buy a new timing chain cover because I cracked the original since it didnt fit right with the oil pump being shimmed out. If you really think that it is worth it to you the double roller will definatly be stronger but the LS2 will handle your power level just fine. I am looking at well over 500 horses on the bottle and I still think that LS2 would have been sufficient
How come some of the covers want clear the double roller chain? I also used a roll master and it cleared fine. I also thought the spacer was a very easy mod.
I used the Katech timing chain, single that fits stock sprockets and is the one the C5R ran.
