Hey all,
The significant other recently rather ruined my e-brake handle by grinding a piece of metal accidentally against it.
I went down to the local chevy dealer and ordered a new handle grip. ($90!) and have it in hand.
The problem is... HOW DO YOU GET IT OFF? I can't tell if it's a hex bolt or a rivet on the side of the handle... anyone with a ship manual or personal experience who can assist me? Please???

I drileld out the rivet, but can't seem to get the assembly back together. Does anyone have an exploded service diagram, or have an understanding of how the release rod connects up?
I have a '99 service manual and it doesn't seem to indicate the HANDLE is replaceable - the lever,yes but no instructions I can find for just the handle..sorry.

I decided I was too impatient and figured it out on my own.
For anyone's future reference (done on a 99 Camaro 6-spd):
The handle is riveted in, as I previously mentioned this rivet has to be painstakingly drilled out, ensuring you don't get all the metal shavings into the lever gears below.
Then wiggling the handle it eventually came free. The handle, release button, and release button shaft all come out at once, after which the button and shaft can be pulled out from the top.
Reassembly is a pain in the neck. You have to put the button and shaft into the handle, and put both on at once. To get the shaft hook to grab again, I used a long allen wrench to push it over the lip of the internal release lever, while pushing down on the handle. It takes a few tries and some aggravation, but I did get it back on without any major damage.
I will be replacing the rivet with a short screw, using a tap to thread the hole where the rivet had been. This will allow future replacement to be much easier.
