A turbo on a z28 with 150k miles?

A turbo on a z28 with 150k miles?

I was wondering if this would be a bad idea. Would it be to bad on the engine if I was to put a turbo(even a small one) on a z28 stock engine that has about 150k miles on it?

I would think so....That's a lot of miles, I would invest the money on just re-building the engine. Then upgrade from there.

I put a small turbo on my original motor at about 135K......I now have a new motor.........

I would say it would depend on the way the engine was taken care of.

Yes. A turbo or any other power mod will stress the motor more.

If you have another car to go to work, or can afford fixing borken parts... then its not an issue.

But if it is your dailly driver, and your budget is limited...
dont do it.

if he does decide to go with the turbo does he need to build that engine with lower compression or what? im looking at the same situation and do have other cars to drive sowould it be better to go with the turbo first that way if you screw up your not building the motor twice? where can i find info on turbo like sizes comprission ratios for the motor and so on

Well......it would depend on how much boost you were wanting to run.....if you stuck with no more than 7-8lbs then you'd be fine with the stock compression......I guess what you need to ask yourself is what do you want the car to do? I mean is it a sole source of transportation....weekend race car.....a little of both???? Once you start throwing power adders to the mix you bring down the longevity of the motor......and with that some reliability.......while the LSX based motors are great engines, like anything else once you start adding to it it will wear faster....parts start breaking.....you know the drill.....now....if you're wanting to build a motor for a turbo then things to think of are:

1. How much boost
2. How much power do you want
3. Cubic inches of the motor (will determine the A/R rating of the turbo)
4. What are you going to use if for (daily driver, race car, etc)
