Hey all,
My buddy just got a brand new BMW 335i - twin-turbo stock engine with 300 ponies/300 torque and a 6-speed auto transmission...I've toyed with his car a bit in my '02 SS vert but nothing more than a few seconds - can i beat him or should I avoid the race for now???
My mods - SLP Lid, Free Ram Air, Ported MAF, Loudmouth Exhaust
You'll walk him in 3rd - 4th gear.
Theyre nothing too special stock, theyll give you a run but you should pull it for sure. When they get some mods watch out though!
ive seen a stock one beat a stock g35 coupe so it should put up a good run
till about 50 mph :lmao:
They are quick down low, but once you get into 3rd gear you should start to get a nice run on him. By 110, you should have him by a few lengths.
I'd rather have the 335 than the M3 for the simple fact it already has turbos. :yup:
Its that whole modability, price thing...
I have heard they put over 330 to the wheels with just a computer reflash :dunno:

I own both a 335I and a LS-1 GTO.
About the same speed stock. BUT....the GTO shifts to 4th at 90 mph or so. The 335I shifts at 104 mph. IMHO the shift from third to forth is a dead spot in LS-1 Cars so be careful up high. To 60 the 335I is quicker hands down.
Be careful alot of 335I drivers are getting the Procede tuner by Vishnu. $1300 dollars and dynos 335 hp and 375 tq. 15 minute install.
Stock a 335I dynos 285hp and 285tq so they are under rated from the factory.
Recent Atco 1/4 mile time slips show Mid 12's at 108 to 109 with the Procede Mod. On 93 octane.
MY stock goat had a best of 13.4X @ 104.X at Island Dragway. The 335i definetly feels faster. After break-in I'll take the 335I to the Island dragway to see what I can do. Hopefully before the Procede arrives.
I was playing with a WS6 Trans the other day up high on the highway and was on him like glue and had to brake. I say Drivers race. Advantage Trans up high past 100. At a light make sure you have room because a 335I is a sub 5 second car stock to 60 mph. They are also easy as Pie to launch!
Basically think of a LS-1 GTO minus 200 pounds. With mod potential for 50 HP
and 90 lbs/tq to the wheels in 15 minutes.
Mag times for the quarter are done with shifts to redline. Shortshift 500 to 800 rpm lower and you can squeek out a 13.3 at say 105. Due to boost fade up high in the 335I.

I like the 335I better. Its a sedan and probably the best one in the world for under 45k.
No regrets with the GTO. Sounds great, takes a beating. 44K miles and never once had a problem. A great gar. Definetly would consider another GM product in the future. A little heavy. Never truely felt comfortable in the twisties. Did I metion the brakes suck. Great car though.
I was Basically lookin for a car that had the practicallity and power of my GTO and the handling and finesse of my s2000. With 4 doors.

I've heard little modding wakes up the 335I and looking to see what the stock block will be capable of, will be very interesting.
The 335 motor just won world engine of the year. Also their V10 500hp won two years running as well. Dam German's know how to build a good motor.

I Just got Procede and the car pulls real hard. A 335I at Atco with drag radials and Procede version 1.45 pulled a 12.5X a few weeks ago. One of these fridays I will head down to Island dragway.
Version 2.0 is scheduled for beta next week. Then anyone with a Procede will be able to download it for free. The dyno numbers are 385 whp and 416 wtq for version 2.0. Add an exhaust and your over 400 whp in a four door grocery getter:)
I don't know much about the GTO's and I realize that there is some weight difference also, but I love the Baer brakes of my WS-6. They really haul it down in a hurry and have saved my butt a couple of times.
