what are these ribs for underneath the intake. would i be able to just grind all of them down before i install or do i need these for some reason?

Some people grind thm down so that they can use the stock coolant line...you're better off just leaving the manifold alone and getting the new line and plugs.
People also say the new line is smaller and the stock one flows better etc...Quote:

Do whatever is easier for you. I personally would just mark it out & dremel it. You could probably get a good idea where to grind them down by comparing the underside of the LS1 intake to the LS6...
i'm grinding all the ribs off. if my intake flys off or blows up because i'm missing some 3/16 ribs...i'll let everyone know
why are you grinding them off?
not sure if your asking why i'm grinding in general or why i'm gonna grind them ALL down before i take the old off. your a mod and i know you probly know why people grind ribs on ls6 intake so............
i'm grinding them off because i dont have the old intake off my car yet and i'm not sure when i'm gonna attack that task. my new intake is just sitting on my bench. i think it would be nice to just have the intake all ready to go before i take the old off instead of screwing around with it. please dont tell me the ribs are what keeps the foam in place lol
well, if you have all that spare time, then have at it. when i helped a friend do his LS6 swap, we just put some grease on the coolant lines, laid the intake on it, then ground down only where it was touching.
all what time? i took a chisel and hammer to those ribs tonight. about 10 min. and it was all gone. no issues at all. it was so easy with a chisel and fast too. intake is on the car
ah, we used a dremel. took us forever. glad i wasn't the one doing it.
