im looking to get a 1999 ss with 80k miles then start to do some mods. how long can i expect the eng to last and run strong? would i be better off to find one around 50k?

I bought mine with 54K on the clock and it runs great. if you take care of it, it can last over 100K miles.
80k is nothing. I have a friend who has 160k on his. Theres a member on here that i know has 175k.
I have 116K and its a BEAST.
92k and she still pulls...my motor will probably outlast the rest of the car
150k is no problem if you keep up on maintenece. wasnt there an article somewhere of a test on a camaro with low miles and then again up over 100k...and they compare the performance numbers abd they are still about the same?

My first vehicle a 1985 CJ7 had 201k.
I bought my F150 with 80k and now has over 100k
Don't worry about it...just hammer down with the mods.....

I have seen 150,000+ mile LS1 with a progressive controlled 250 nitrous shot, did 557rwhp, finally spun a rod bearing because oil pump went out, not motor rotating failure. I have also seen a rod come through the block at 27,000 miles. For anyone to say you will be fine to 150,000 miles has no clue. Yes I believe if car has been taken care of decently then normally will see the 100,000 mile marker, and maybe 150,000+. But a car that you just bought with 80,000+ miles is unkown of pryor driving conditions and upkeep. I am not trying to scare you away from moding your car, but giving you honest opinion. I bought my car with 55,000 miles and have since done cam, exhaust, bolt on's, etc. with a 150 wet shot, dynoed 383rwhp with cam, boltons and 522 with 150 wet shot. Car has 68,000 miles, with no leaks, no oilburing, no noises, and no SES lights, stock M6 tranny fine also. So it is possible there are several guys that have built cars well over 500rwhp with 100,000 miles on engine. So basically mod your car, and do meticulous upkeep, and make sure it is always tuned to prevent early retirement. And remember if all else fails, you can build one the way you want it:)
