What do you need besides the intake, cam, and heads? Programming?
Do LS6s get just as good gas mileage?
I always wondered if making your engine into an LS6 would be the best route for power and conserving gas..

i know someone that has, and that is pretty much it, (intake manifold, heads, cam) exhaust manifolds are different but my friend has LT's any way
the ls6 block is slightly different but it isnt worth the swap
i imagine the gas mileage would be abou the same but a little worse
i think with a good tune you'd be happy with it's gas mileage
LOL if you want to conserve gas you dont buy and mod and LSx based car.
But then again I get as high as 29mpg with my z28 m6 and still dyno 360rwhp.. Ahh the 6 speed, nothing like doing 70mph at low rpms..
as far as an ls1 to ls6 conversion, its not worth the money, especially depending on the year ls1 you have.
Yeah the ls6 cam shaft is slightly bigger, the heads flow slightly better but again depending on the year of your ls1 you will already have the ls6 intake.
For the cost your better off, just picking out the head/cam combo you want and get it tuned.
The car will run faster and if you take your foot out of the gas your MPG will still be fine.
yeah, the man's gotta point. You have an Ls6 intake if your car is 2001 or 02. Saying you have an ls6 is cool, but saying you could rape an ls6 is evil >=)
I have no clue why anyone would. Just a little hotcam would put out very similar numbers for cheap. Any money spent towards an ls6 is better off being spent towards better heads and a different cam.
oh yeah also some, I mean very few 01-02 ls1 block where actually ls6 blocks. The difference being is ls6 block have larger breathing windows for oil pressure which alliviates oil consumption/burning that many of us have with our ls1 engines...
so if you want a true ls6 engine you will have to buy:
ls6 block
ls6 maf
ls6 heads cast 241 I believe
ls6 cam
new tuning.
for the cost of all of them plus labor, your better off buying the Patriot head and cam/combo with your choice of heads and cam. I believe its about $1800.00
Get a Stroker motor and send me to Fiji with your left over mod money.
I did it, dyno results somewhat disappointing;
LS1 309rwhp 326tq (+22%)
LS6 333rwhp 385tq (+22%)
The car ran fat, and if I ran the AC in traffic it pop a code.
Tuner fixed the code, #2 setting
Ran a 12.38et ΒΌ back to back w/50 shot dry (3640lbs w/me in the car)
I had the LS6 MAF before I tuned, LS1 now.
Total=$$$$ labor 800, cam/CNC heads 200/1990, LS6 oil pump 80, gm HD chain 100, HD push rods 100, gasket kit 245
Mileage is the same, daily driver 18.5-20mpg city.
No LT, ported the cast-iron exhaust.
Dont get me wrong. I know about 01-02 having hte ls6 intake and that there were some mistaken ls6 blocks out there. I dont understand why, but all my posts from whenever the hell I joined (more that 1 year ago...maybe 4 years) plus my signature is gone, so yeah I appear as a newbie.
The last 2 replies were just the disappointing answers I was seeking. I thought the dyno results would be better than that. The Et is good, but you said that was with N20.
This was just a ponderment. I have no one local to do any tuning (or as I would label, ripping off), so my options are limited.
Sarge, who is that in your avatar(s)?
Jesus, why doesnt my sig come up...this should do it.
Almost looks like Boy George! LOL
you have to remember the z06 c5 vetts where advertised at 412hp at the most, and that was at the flywheel, so yeah being around the 350 + or - range would be right.
yet you can get 350+ with just bolts-on with a ls1 and its cheaper!
A LOT cheaper!
a buddy and i did ls6 heads, cam and maf on his 01 ss, still sporting a stock lid, exhaust, the car picked up almost a 1/2 second on street tires, its runs exactly the same, gas mileage is the same as an ls1 and it spins to 6600..its alot of work for the outcome but for a daily driver its cool
EroC
any and most built up valvetrain will allow for high reving/shift points.
but
Just because your car can rev that high doesnt mean your making hp, your shift points should always be right before your horsepower falloff
sarges avatar is stevie ray vaughn. IMO its not worth the swap. ls6 intake..yeah, a must over the ls1. LS6 heads do flow much better than the 853s and 241s. ls6 cam is debatable though.
