I now have p 315 goodyear f1s on the back of my 99SS M6.
? when will my 10 fail? Next year I would like to get a all new rear end.
mosler vs strange 12 bolt vs ford 9" or dana 60 pros and cons please.
Car is a weekend cruiser only. ? 411 gears or 373 It now has the stock 342
:dunno:
I went with a 9" because at the time it was the strongest. Then the dana 60 came out..oh well. I have 3.90's in mine. A slight howl too. Its a moser btw. Are you an auto or stick?
Everything is a direct bolt up to Moser and the rear itself is a direct bolt in. However with the strange I believe that certain torque arms and lca's dont work with it.

I have a stick (m6)

so I should go with the moser for less headaches.
Then Id consider 3.90's or 4.11s for your rearend choice. I dont know that the strange cant use certain TA's or LCAs. First Ive heard of that. The relocation brackets are the same size for the strange and the moser 12bolts, but different for the 9".
From what iv'e heard you can't beat the ease and compatibility of a moser 12 bolt to the stock 10.
Never heard that before. All LCAs and torque arms will work with Strange or Moser. The torque arm mount on the Moser sucks tho as instead of two long bolts going all the way thru like the stocker Moser uses 4 shorter bolts which are famous for backing out. I did read one thread on tech however where a guy couldn't get his drag sway bar to fit on his Moser 12 due to the larger axel tubes. If you have a six speed that see the track and sticky tires alot then I'd go 9 inch. If not I'd get the 12 bolt (I like Strange) as it's lighter and uses less HP. A4s don't need anything more than a 12 bolt and I wouldn't consider the S60 for either as its a pig. Like 25lbs or so heavier than a 9 inch if I'm not mistaken.Quote:

I too have heard of the issues with moser 12bolts and aftermarket swaybars. some have had issues with 9"s and swaybars. That's mainly due to the QA of mosers rearends. However, I love my moser 9". Great rear. Cant wait to test it with the new motor :burnout:
I have a Moser 9" with a Strange center section and love it.
Price??Quote:

So whats the conclusion because I am in the same boat. Finally got all the motor work done, FAst, enjoyed it for one day and the rear-end went south. Curious about price if anyone has gone with new rear-end lately but mainly want to know which rear-end can handle 450 to the tires on a six speed with 4.11's without ever having to worry about it.
I went with a Strange 12-bolt drop in assy with 4.11 gears. i had no problems with the LCA's (though i have upgraded and added relocation brackets) or the stock torque arm. there is a whine to them. in hind sight, the only thing i would have done different is to go with a LSD instead of a spool. last time i went to the track, i drove the 2 hours to the track, made 6 passes (1/4 mile), and drove home and still averaged a little over 22mpg. even with the 4.11's. so imo, the trade off for milage vs performance is worth it.
and to top it off, when you do the whole assy, you dont have to worry about anything like setting backlash. you just take the old one out, and bolt the new one up.
Bolts right up? No modification of drive shaft length?
it was a true bolt up. no changes were needed. for the longest time i was running the stock driveshaft. the only reason i swapped to the Sphoon shaft was because the stock one had the typical vibration at highway speeds.
I also have the same setup.Quote:

I wanted a high bias gear driven differential, like the T2R available in the 10-bolt and 8.8".
Having said that, the 12-bolt was simply tossed out of the equation.
I'm glad i went that route... there is no reason one has to sacrifice cornering to get a stout rear-end.
Sacrifice cornering? Can you explain please? High bias????
? could this have been the difference between a posi and a full spool or Detroit locker as far as the noise around corneringQuote:

i also have a set of 315's on the back, with no issues. i just run a 5/16 spacer to keep the wheel from rubbing on the bump stop.
I think I am decided on my rearend.
