GTO to LS1 F-body???

For financial reasons, I'm considering going to a LS1 F-body from my 2004 GTO. I'd like to free up some money for the possibility of spending on something other than my car. I know it's crazy, but I'm sure some of you do the same sometimes! :)

I've heard that the F-bodies are noisier (as far as interior noises/rattles) than the GTO. Do any of you guys think it would be hard to go from a GTO to an F-body? I am one of those guys that hates rattles. My two piece driveshaft on the GTO even annoys me.

I spent $267 on gas last month. That's a little much when I combine it with my $515 payment. I can afford to keep driving the GTO, but I don't have much money spending money left over. We still pay our bills easily and put away a good bit of savings each month, but I'd like to be able to have a little extra spending money, again. Then I could afford stuff like headers, a 4 wheeler, weekend vacations, or whatever.

I just went from an '02 NHRA edition Trans Am to an '05 GTO. There is a difference in the cars. They were both awesome in their own way. As far as interior noise on the F-body that will depend greatly on how it has been driven and taken care of. I bought mine new and with few exceptions was the only one to drive it. I took good care of the car and didn't overly abuse it. I didn't baby it, either. It was my daily driver for 3 years. It had no rattles or squeaks whatsoever. The interior still looked new. I had one person that test drove it tell me that they'd been looking for an f-body for 2 years that mine was the only one they'd driven that didn't have some kind of rattle. Having said all that, I could still tell a difference in the GTO & Trans Am. The GTO does feel more sound-proof and has less road noise. I noticed that as soon as I got in it. The TransAm wasn't that solid even when it was new (I'm sure the T-tops played a part in that as well). The TransAm definitely felt more like a 'muscle car'.
Having said all this, my advise would be to go look at and test drive some F-bods and see what you think. :)

i really dont' think it's going to be worth it. I mean, cutting your losses is one thing, but seriously, you're gonna eat it pretty hard when you go to resell that goat. what's the math you're looking at? I think the numbers will tell the story.

Well... I bought the GTO used with 2,900 miles on it for $22,000. I owe $17,800 on it. I'm pretty sure I could sell it for more than that. It has about 19,200 miles on it now.

I've got an ad in the Autotrader advertising it for $20,500. I'll probably end up keeping it. I can drive it and pay for gas. It's just that I don't have much extra spending money. I've been wanting to go play some blackjack at a casino for months. I don't have the play money leftover to go do something like that.

It's a matter of priorities! :)

I own both. I have an 04 GTO and a 98 formula. I love both cars but honestly the fit and finish on the GTO is leaps and bounds above the f-body. It's much quieter and rides/handles better IMO but it's also 6 years newer. If you're looking for ride and noise quality it's gonna be tough to beat the GTO and still stay in the performance market at that price range.
On the other hand. If I didn't have both cars and someone offered to trade me a GTO for my f-body I'd tell them to kiss my ass. :D I love my f-body and would dump the GTO in a heartbeat to keep it. :D You will notice a difference but I don't think you'd be unhappy with an f-body. Have you thought about doing a refi on the GTO? I know it sucks to do but would free up some monthly play money. Also, my a4 GTO gets better gas mileage than my a4 f-body but that's not a straight comparison because I'm stalled with mods and gears in the f-body but you won't really save much on gas. A LS1 f-body will be a few tenths faster than your 04 GTO stock for stock so you'll have that going for you. :D

well if you wanted to eliminate the rattles and roadnoise you could get some sfc's and some real good dynomat.

the dynomat and some sfc's would probably make an f-body just as quiet or more so than a GTO.

hey i just beat my friends 04 gto 6spd i have an 01 with an intake and tru dual straight pipes. lol i dont have a problem paying half as much as he did and still have leather t-tops and a nice car that i know has been proven through out the years( by what i mean is if i have a problem i know so many people to take it to and i can figure out whats wrong with it pretty easialy but the goat is so new that no one realy knows whats ahead of it). but if you like your gto alot then stay with it. to me thier alil to heavy from factory but its a nicer car overall but your paying for it, ill stick with my lil fbody even if its alil rough at times. oh n if you dont know about the fbodies watch out for the rear axles ive had 1 go on both z28's ive own'd.
