Power Steering Questions
Hello all,
I have a few questions about the power steering system in my '02 T/A WS6.
I ask because it suffered from the dreaded power steering pump pulley breakage, which then took out the pump reservoir.
I've disassemble the vehicle; just collecting a few more parts and tools to put it back together.
1) My power steering pump does NOT have that U-shaped brace on the front of the pump, the 2 other bolts that go with it, and the spacer that goes between the 5 o'clock position and the mounting bracket.
Is that normal for an '02 V-8 F-body? When did GM eliminate those parts? Or perhaps they used multiple suppliers?
I special ordered the car; it was built on 10/10/2001, delivered on 11/26/2001, and has never left my possession. It has only 4,400 miles.
2) I would like some sort of tool to flush the power steering system out before I reassemble it. What is the best tool for this job?
In my mind, the tool would either force fluid thru the system from the high pressure hose fitting until it ran clean at the return hose. Or it would draw out the old fluid from the return hose and then draw thru clean oil from the pressure side until it ran clean at the return side. There HAS to be a tool that does this.
3) Does any company make a replacement oil-to-air power steering cooler kit to replace the factory unit. Nothing seems to be wrong with mine, but I understand it's not IF it will fail but WHEN.
It would be nice if there was a full engineered kit that makes it super easy to install without any cutting and NOT a universal style kit.
Thanks in advance for your help.
