Y-pipe

Just a quick ? i scraped my y-pipe the other day a it put a very little hole in it. you can't really see it but definetly hear it. My ? is most shops around my way want $25-$30 for just a spot weld on the pipe thats all it needs like a 5 second job. should i pay that amount or buy JB Weld for $5 and fix it myself and do you think it would last as long as a weld? any and all suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Try the jb weld and it it doesn't work then get them to fix it. Better to try and it fail than pay up front and never know.

thanks man appreciate it just didn't know if anyone else has done this before and had success with it I was planning on doing it first with the jb weld to see what happens just figured i would take some advice again thanks.

The jb weld will work at first it's some strong shit! But when your exhaust gets nice and toasty, it'll probably leak again. You should look around some more at small shops that might have some good-ol-boy that'd be more than happy to tack your leak for $10-20 max.

That's the same thing my buddy told me to do just cruise around to different shops that are slow and if they have the bays open swing in and see if one of them will do it for like $10-$15 thats what he has done before. Thanks for the tip

Actually. JB Weld is only rated to about 600 degrees F. Yeah it's strong but that's not really what it's designed for. I found some nice stuff called Inferno, you can get it at Advance Auto. It's just a paste in a little plastic jar and I used it to permanently plug a cracked EGR pipe and it's rated to something around 1500f. It's cheap.
