If you're doing a clutch replacement and want a good solid one get a LS7 clutch kit for 98-02 f bodies.
Better then stock and works well even with bolt ons and mild cam and heads mods. It's rated for 550 ft lbs of tq and that's plenty unless you're over that rating. They go for about $500-550, comes with pressure plate, clutch pad and flywheel. I want to say this is the stock replacement now for our cars but not 100% sure.
I used it for a few yrs till I installed my 403ci engine.
Get a new pilot bearing if it doesn't come with the kit and go ahead and spend the $$ on a new slave as well. Do it all now while it's a part and easy to get too.
I also suggest getting the speed bleeder from Tick Performance and their MC as well.
Thanks for all that, but that wasnt my question. I dont want to replace a clutch. I just saw a 2002 ss for sale with 20k miles, but I remember my 2000 TA had a horrible clutch. So I didn't know if I would have the same problems with a 2092. Considering buying it.. but I prefer automatics.
They are all the same clutch 98-02 from the factory.
There are some issues with the stock MC at high rpm, rapid shifting that are known issues (now). The orifice in the hydraulic clutch hose on the MC doesn't let the fluid move fast enough when doing that type of shifting. There is a self fix it but I would only recommend it if you are mechanically incline and not afraid to buy a new one if you make a mistake otherwise the TICK MC.
Now it could be other things as well about the clutch but the number 1 issue or complaint was that one. Depending on use the stock clutch should last around 100k miles but if you run it hard expect less.
Every transmission has their weak points. With the 4lshitty (4L60e) the 2nd-3rd gear is known to fail, weak planetary gears and clutches, pump failures....
^^ :yup:
Nothing special about the stock WS.6 clutch.
I figured they were the same. Either way, I ain't buying the car. Nice but I hate manuals.
I have no idea why my signature popped up. I have not been on here in forever.
What part of Dallas? I have family in Denton, Ft Worth and DFW area.
Hell I grew up long, long, (Star Wars long....) time ago in Grand Prairie, Arlington, Irving Staudium etc.
If you hate manuals why were you looking at one and asking the question lol.
