6th gear - IMHO you shouldn't be in 6th at 1000rpms, it boggs down till the rpms get at or above 1800. I would stay in 5th.
A couple of other ?? How many miles on it? Any mods? What were you doing prior to the issues and be honest, no judging here? Burn outs, high rev launches, bounced off the rev limiter? Each one of these can lead to a ticking issue that is serious.
If you're really concern that it's a bearing or something critical drain the oil into a clean pan and look for debris and/or cut the oil filter.
