T-bar roof

Is there anything that can be done to freshen up the dull looking bar in between the tops? Is there a way to clean or polish it to make it look better? Or has anyone ever attempted to paint this to match the car? My car is black so Id just be making it brighter and shiney, but will paint even stick to it?

Yes, removed it last summer. Rubbed it down with scotch brite, cleaned it and laid down a fresh coat of gloss black. The rubber tips never seem to hold up. Ro just removed the rear one.
