What is your reason for wanting to remove them? Just curious.
I don't think it will hurt performance at all. It actually might improve it some. You'll get codes for your rear 02 sensors. You'll also smell the exhaust more as the cats won't be there to do their job. Other than that, I don't think there will be any adverse affect from doing this.
Codes can be tuned out, or you can buy 02 simulators. I would recommend a tune.
If you have state inspections, you won't pass a visual. I don't know what your particular state rules are.
The car is too quiet for my likeing, its my weekend warrior and as little as ill be driving it i wont mind gas smell actually may like it lmao. My old ta had a big cam this one is mild and i wanna give the car a little more rumble.
how does a mail order tune work? i have a guy here that does lifetime tunes for one time $425
Check out www.tunedbyfrost.com. Many members have used his services with much success. Last time I checked a mail-order tune from him was $150. You ship him your PCM, he tunes it and mails it back. Turn-around time is fairly quick, too.
If you have just bolt-on mods (which it appears you do) a mail-order tune will be fine for your setup. If you were running heads, cam, nitrous or forced induction an actual tune with the car on the dyno would be the way to go.
The car does have mild cam and ported ls1 heads I called the place that last tuned the car. What he said was if they didn't delete the rear O2 that I can send in pcm and he would turn them off for $75
