I was on the last stretch of highway before getting to work this morning. There were a few cars in front of me and I was a little behind. Well, I saw an opportunity to get ahead of some traffic and I took it. I didn't do anything spectacular, just shifted down into fourth and gave it a little gas. I might have been doing 70 in a 55 to pass.
One of the vehicles I passed was a plain white Ford minivan. When I got off the next exit, so did the minivan. I made a turn and continued to my gate to get on post. He follows and then hits the lights. Damn!
A plain clothes guy gets out and walks up to my door. Obviously a little ticked off the guy looks at me and shows me what looked like an airport Policeman's photo ID, and asks if I knew why he pulled me over. I looked at him and said, "Cuz I passed you?"
He looked at me and said, "Oh lets see, speeding, tailgating, wreckless driving... I bet you've never been pulled over by a minivan have you?"
He then proceeded to harrass me and tell me that this isn't the first time he's seen me driving like an idiot. A little surprised, I asked, "Me? Sir, are you sure you saw me? " He said yes. Then I asked, "are you sure you saw me in this car?" He said yes, he was sure he saw me a couple weeks ago.
I looked at him and said, "Sir, I'm not calling you a liar. I just believe you are grossly mistaken. I just pulled this car out of storage Friday night."
He paused, then handed me my license back and said, "Well, you're a man in uniform so I'm going to let you go."
As he walked back to his minivan I looked back and said to him, "Have a good safe day officer."
Cool, looks like the uniform has its advantages.
