Anyone out there with a 5th gen, or someone who can answer this question.
On the 5th gen, do long tube headers bolt in to OEM exhaust, or does it require a new X pipe?
That is all.

Anyone? I called a company that sells them and they couldn't give me an answer.
Go to an exhaust shop which does custom work. They'll make them fit, that's what they do.
i saw a video of a shop who modifies ZL1s, they said they put on "long tube headers that bolt right up to the factory cat back" they had a header sitting out and it looked like any other LT ive seen
i think they said the 5th gen responds really well to headers....but that was on the LSA, not the LS3
all headers are built to bolt right up to what ever the car is they are going in. just make sure that you get the headers for right car. a set of longtubes will not fit a 2010 camaro if they were ordered for a 01. as far as the stock exhaust goes, yes they flow good. but the way gm crimps the turns in the exhaust, a person could order a good aftermarket exhaust and gain hp over the stock exhaust. I had a 3 1/2" mandrel exhaust done on my 04 gto and what a difference. And i now have a 1000 hp supportive exhaust if the need arrises.
the question isnt the headers bolting to the engine...its bolting to the existing exhaust.
I bought headers for a 2000 Camaro, and I have a 2000 Camaro...my factory exhaust most definitely would not have bolted up
you will need to have the stock exhaust refitted to fit the lt's. your stock exhaust is meant to fit the stock manifolds. the headers are much longer than that so some pipe and a new flange and some bending will have to be done for the exhaust to fit properly.
Surprise..surprise! It requires. :rotfl:
