A little excessive? I can understand the fine, the scholarships, the bowl games, but to strip the games from the past that doesn't just punish the school it punishes the players that had no knowledge of the deprave activities of one man. Talk about Corporal Punishment.
I don't in any way condone what happen but to me it seem a little excessive.
I personally dont mind. If it was truly covered up like they said then so be it. In that regard, they deserve it. Students may not have known but as a University, they looked really bad through all this.

If Paterno had knowledge of what he did ( and from everything I've read/heard he did) they should strip every win he had from the books. Protecting and enabling someone that did that is the same thing as doing it yourself. Those players and students may say they're effected by stripping the wins but they aren't and in the grand scheme of things they don't know what being effected by it is.....ask those kids how effected they were. It's sports.......it means next to nothing compared to the big picture. I have a hard time coming up with a crime that's even on the same playing field as this one. As someone with kids I can honestly tell you that if someone did that to my kids the only trial being held would be mine.
Good points :yup: I see what you are saying about the players. I completely agree that Paterno's reputation should be shredded and that he's just as guilty. If not, worse. If he were alive today, he'd deserve jail time himself.
he took the easy way out......have to just be happy with the fact that now his family gets to see his legacy turn to shit.
I don't know what his family did or didn't know. If they knew and also kept it to themselves... they deserve the backlash that will last their lifetime. But, if they knew nothing, I feel bad for them. That is one hell of a stigma to have thrown at you.

I've seen too many PSU students whining about this and they should worry about their education, football isn't going to change 95% of the lives of students who attend Penn State. I think some Penn State students are upset b/c Penn State is/was only known for one thing.
Maybe the coach and others should have thought of that when they decided to cover up the actions of a monster. They brought this on the school and program themselves.

If anything, it wasn't severe enough. They could've gave them the death penalty for four years, and that wouldn't have been enough either. You can't put a cost on what this person did to those kids, and if that wasn't bad enough, "people" knew about it, and covered it up - to win, at all costs.
The players that played there from '98 to '11 were not harmed at all. These findings just came out, so all of those guys that were good enough to make it to the NFL, did - it did not "hurt" them. I don't look at the players badly at all - they did nothing wrong, unless there were 'some' that knew what was going on, and turned a blind eye. At least McQueary said something -
Ironically, their last 'win' was against Wisconsin in '97 - and McQueary was the quarterback.
It does greatly effect those student players who for the past decade have devoted themselves to the game of football, since they were in elementary or middle school. There entire world has revolved around the game and many of them are trying to make it there career. Now the taking wins away isn't a big deal to current players but no hope for a post season for those older players still playing this season trying to get into the draft is a HUGE DEAL. They have worked hard there wholes lives for the chance to play pro ball, they have made sacrifices to get where they are.Quote:

I see all your points and I agree with most, I wasn't talking about the coaches or school admin, I meant for the players/students that are collateral damage for those A-holes.

Most of ya'll are closer to the area and can follow it more. I can say in my area that if it falls outside of Auburn or Alabama no one pays attention here. It might it the news for about a day and off to something else.
Of course it hurts the current players psychologically. It hursts the entire University, but the NCAA has said that the current players can transfer to another school, and play this year, without any penalty, and will not have to sit out a year, just as you've said. Does it suck? Yes. Are they "doomed"? No. If they're "good enough", they'll make the pros.Quote:

in what way does taking away wins from the university greatly effect those players? An old man sexually assaulted some small boys and the coach and athletic director looked the other way. If anything the university got off easy.Quote:

I also said atleast the NCAA is letting them transfer and play as starters right away but that doesn't solve the problem for all or even most of the players. Who is to say there will be a starting spot for every good player on the team with another team?
