Time for a brake upgrade

The brakes on our car are in need of some serious help. At the top end of the track their performance is very questionable and I can feel brake fade as I slow the car. I always warn anyone who drives the car as it can be an unnerving experience. As far as I know, it is still running the stock rotors and probably a set of generic parts store pads that were on the car when we bought it. I have no interest in drilled rotors, but either slotted or dimpled are a possibility. Currently, I am leaning towards Hawk or EBC pads, but not sure what compound to choose if I went with EBC. Per cpop's experience, I will most likely swap out the rubber hoses for braided lines as well. I have already flushed the entire braking system from when I installed the 12 bolt and line lock. The car probably sees more track time than street time anymore, but we do like to go for a few blasts in the summer. Recommendations?

you're just wanting to upgrade the stock hardware correct? Not go with bigger brakes right? I'm telling you Jeff....I've had nothing but good experiences with R1 concepts from ebay and everyone I know that has bought those rotors have nothing but good things to say. As far as pads I just run nice quality pads like wagner or bendix on my cars and have no complaints. I have bendix pads and r1 rotors on the firebird and have a ton of passes on them with no issues. It's just hard for me to justify the extra money for hawk and ebc stuff when I can get stuff that works great cheaper.

I recommend the Brembo blank rotors, and either the EBC, hawk, or the GM durastop pads.

Yeah, plan on keeping the stock calipers and stock diameter rotors. I'll go take a look at the recommendations. Thanks guys.

I think I'm going with R1 concepts when I upgrade mine.

Just read up on the R1 Concept rotors. I like the look and sound of the premium slotted version. I assume these are off shore parts? What pads do you run Jon?

I'm currently running just the Duralast Gold pads on OEM type rotors. I most likely will run the Hawk HPS pads though when I upgrade the rotors. Heard nothing but positive things about R1 and a few friends run them and like them.

I have Hawk pads on all 4 corners of my T/A, my only complaint is the brake dust they leave on the wheels. Other than that they are a great upgrade.

Chris -- are you running braided lines?

Yes, my dad got them for his Corvette and never put them on so I stole them and put them on the T/A. It really helped out with the brake fade. I should have done it a long time ago. I think they are made my Earls.

These blank Brembo rotors, do they rust a lot ?
EBC rotors are black in the middle, so they don't rust there

I believe they are manufactured and machined here in the US Jeff. Their headquarters are in CA.

Maybe I missed it. Anymore, if something is made in Ooooosa, they usually have flags all over their site announcing it.

Add a "p" at the end of htt

98% of all rotors are made in China. The other 2% in Europe. If you buy a set of rotors that say made in the USA it's due to the machining and coating being done in the USA.

i went with R1 concepts and hawk pads....prob been 6 months now and im very happy so far......little expensive, but worth it

Where can I get these lines?

I tried searching the site for Earl's and apparently you can't shop by application. Switching over to Jeg's, I found braided line kits from Russell that fit our cars. This is the one for a traction control equipped car: Russell 692290 Russell Street Legal Braided Brake Lines
