Water Vapor System Install

Here are some pics of my kurt urban Water Vapor System install. I ordered the whole kit to try to keep my blackbird cooler. I have my stock temp sensor in the stock location in the driver's side head, that will read 195 degrees consistantly. I also have an autometer gauge reading off the passenger side head which puts it over #8. Which will read 210-220, or more depending on traffic or if I hotlap it at the track. Which is not a good thing to have with (in my setup) larger shots of spray. We'll see how well this helps this summer when all my snow melts.

Also it's nice having the cowling cut out and no passenger wiper. I still have the plastic cowling cover to put back on after I start it and check for leaks.

To sum it up. The rear cylinders 7 and 8 do get hotter then the rest. (Proven by my 2 temp gauges. So guys like Kurt Urban have made these).

There are alot of theory's as to why. Some show that there is possibility of air and water vapor being created in the coolant in the block. LS engines have a front coolant crossover tube on them. Some early cars also got a rear crossover tube. When gm when to the LS6 intake they blocked off the rear ports. So the rear cylinders get hotter and this kit connects all 4 corners back together and purges it back to the radiator. In high performance apps keeping things cool to prevent detination is important.

this will work with an LS6 intake?

This actually bolts to the block it's self. So it works with all intakes. Mine happens to be a fast 92 intake.

would a double LS6 crossover system .....1 in front...1 in back....worked for you instead of this?

yes it would. i've seen a hose ran across the driver side of the intake connecting the front and rear with a T fitting. im contemplating doing it myself

It would work just fine. But a pain in the ass to install with the intake on and still in the car. Since you can't see what your doing. Even my small hands had a had time with this setup. I am lucky that when they built my car they removed the wipers and cut the cowling out.

Interesting. From all the LS1 development and testing literature I have read one of the design goals was eliminating hot spots and steam pockets in the heads.

They did a good job when things are stock. But add a temp gauge to the passenger head and watch how much higher it goes. I would have never known it was doing this because my stock gauge reads fine. But I have the autometer mechanical gauge in the passenger head which is at #8 and it's noticably hotter. Just idling in my driveway yesterday. My stock gauge said 195 my autometer said 220. In 25 degree weather.

Not sure if it is actually hotter or if it is your gauge. The stock temp gauge in anything other than a '98 is really just an estimator. My dash gauge reads 205 degrees all the time when my actual temp may range anywhere from 183 degrees to 198 degrees.

True. But I've confirmed this with both my Tech 2 GM scan tool and efi live.

ok -- just so you are not relying on the dash gauge for the comparison.

Oh hell no. I log each pass at the track. I just go off of that when I'm tooling around on the street because I'm not one of those guys that has a car on laptop life support. haha.

I have a Hypertech (came with the car) that I use only for monitoring. It is secured to the passenger flip out cupholder and actually looks pretty good. All the wiring to it is hidden and I can toggle the readouts as I choose.
