I imagine though, to answer your question, I'd use my carbide hole saw with the 12' extension.
Use a hammer and something like a long piece of rebar
i used a long big ass punch or screwdriver and a hammer and just worked at it.
Did they go bad??
If they are still in working order, I wouldn't bother. I'd buy some used cats and gut those if you really want to. Then take your good ones and sell them,,,they have some value.
I tried this route hoping for some gain. Didn't do anything at all for my car,,,ET or MPH. I still have the gutted cats here in a box if you want to buy them and try for yourself.
All it creates is a really large area for exhaust gasses to get trapped and bounce around. I think it caused more turbulance than helping anything, or something obvious along those lines since my car ran the same.
