Bruce Larson's 13th Annual Dragfest

Until about two weeks ago, I had no idea that an event this cool was taking place 2 hours south of where I live. A friend mentioned something called "Dragfest" and I was without a clue. We probably all are familiar with the Red, White and Blue "USA-1" Camaros and Corvettes -- well, this event is hosted by the guy who owned and drove those cars, Bruce Larson, winner of the 1989 NHRA Funny Car National Championship (you can Google or Wiki his name if you are not familiar with him).

Anyway, for the past 12 years he has hosted an event at his place in Dauphin, Pennsylvania, "Stoney Creek Barn" which is just north of Harrisburg. I was blown away by what I saw and some of the names in attendance at this gathering. Here are the pics:

This is a car a lot of you may recogonize -- Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick campaigned this '65 Mercury Comet. It had a "For Sale" sign on the dash with an asking price of around $299,000. At the end of the day the Comet had a new owner.

Trivia: One of the above pics shows Bruce Larson's very first drag car. Which one is it?

i'm guessing the white camaro.

very cool pics. we have a racing event at norwalk/ summit raceway park yearly.

Great pictures!

My Dad ended up going and had a great time. I just got back into town and I will snag his pictures when I can. He said it was a great time.

USA-1 chevelle was his first funny car.

You'll have to come up next year - we definitely plan on going again.

ANSWER: The "Mr. Clean" car was actually his first dedicated dragstrip vehicle. Pretty neat that he kept it for all these years.

Oh I will make it. I would have but work sent me out of town for 8 days.

I wonder how many of his cars he still owns or bought back over the years....

Nice! I'm sure there were pictures and other memorabilia from his 2nd gen cars there -- but there was so much stuff to look at that I honestly did not notice.
