I'm NOT the kind of person that goes crazy over damage on a car, so I'm not going to be anal over buying all new parts here. Eventually, once it gets converted to a track car, I had intentions of replacing the hood (prev owner put on the aftermarket SS hood.) Fitment on the whole front end is pretty sloppy. Funny part is that after I did this (wet road, everyone brake checks, ABS slides me under a truck,) the hood now fits better than before.

Seeing as that's a rip in the hood, I'm fearing that the only fix is "new hood." I'm also thinking that the cowl is definitely not repairable with the chunk loose near the hood.

if youve got skillz in fiberglass work, it can be fixed....but if youre just gonna make it a track car eventually, you should get the hood you want, or if you dont care, a hood from a v6 car out of salvage...

I've been taking general auto mechanics classes locally, I'll see if they'll let me move over to the auto body class for the remainder of the time. If not, I'll need to send it to a body shop.

My fear is that I'd walk in a shop and they would tell me "new parts" to save themselves the labor time of repair just to slap on new parts and paint. Pre-arming myself with knowledge of if this CAN be fixed will help.

yea glasswork isnt that hard....im sure someone at your school can help out...

The more I look at the bumper mount:

I'm thinking that repair isn't going to be worth the time and effort for me to learn glass work.

I've called every salvage yard around my area, but nobody has ANY f-bodies that I can get the mount from.

Buying a new bumper doesn't seem to come with the mounting bracket if I'm looking at these correctly. Can anyone confirm that?

Also, does anyone know of a source for the bracket if the bumper doesn't come with it?

Only place I could find the bracket was at the dealership, even they had a hell of a time finding out what part it was and we had to guess. (My printout of the hood and fender mechanical blowout seems to come from the GM repair manual, page "1F08-012" Rev.02/25/2002 blowout part #56) I'll confirm that the item I ordered is correct and post part numbers in case anyone else needs to reference this in the future.

Looks like you slid under a truck!

Hood can be repaired- time consuming, but it can be repaired. If you take it to a shop they will want to replace because the labor alone may be more than a used hood. I'd suggest just finding a nice hood you like.

6litereater has an ss hood for $425 or a carbon fiber (that you don't have to paint!) for $700. KYSpeed has a Trufiber (probably FRP) for under $400.

hood can be repaired easily. i ran up an off ramp and the wire cable split my door in half. had it repaired in a day. and then they painted and blended.

Was that just paint time? I'm thinking at least 2 hours to get the epoxy adhesive to set (not neccesary on the hood), then time to let glass set, and then you still have to add time for bondo, sanding, sealing, prepping, painting, drying, wetsand, buff, and cleanup- you're looking at a couple of days minimum and I haven't even factored in the time to remove and replace the part. Sure, it can be fixed, and being an SS hood you would probably want to fix it.
