This is true, when I changed mine, right after I bought the car (used with 40k) i had to torch them out on one side, and the other I had to buy a new Caliper bracket, which should be available from your parts store for about $20 on order. That's definitely a sticking point for not stradning yourself if you dont have another ride though.

More tips for the OP: When you unbolt the caliper pins, you will need a 12mm wrench to hold the sleeves. There are two flat spots on the sleeve and you may need to turn the pins a bit to get your wrench on them. Also, do not let your calipers hang from the hoses. Cut a section out of a wire coat hanger and use it to hang the caliper from your spring, or some other point, to keep pressure off the hose.
Why remove the pins?
Same. Our car had a seized pin on the front when we bought it. Had to get out the "heat wrench" to free it up.
wow thanks lots of info i didnt, i didnt lube the pins last time i did my pads which was in october, so would they need replaced this time? and other than awful squeaking and the pads seeming to wear a little faster than normal i dont think it did any major damage, and im usein the grease that my pads came with its hawk grease or somethin like that i got hawk pads
Use all the above.
PB blaster to help remove bolts.
Brake de-squeek on back of pads to redue noise.
Unless the pins are really frogged up, you should be able to re-use them. I had to run mine on a wire wheel to clean them. Synthetic caliper grease is your best bet.
I still think you can clean them without removing them.

The boots will just pop on and off exposing the pins.
