HEy guys im looking on fasttoys website looking at a 10 bolt rear end cover made by mac GM....does this really prolong the life of the rear of the car? has anyone been real satified by the performance of the product? Thanks in advance any suggestions ill appreciate it :woot2:
I've heard they do but I can tell you it didn't help me!
I have one, don't know if it has done anything. I will say the aluminum covers do not have a magnet to catch shavings like the stock one does. Why is this important? The bearings on our axles do not have races so they ride directly on the axle. If and when the axle burrs you won't be able to reuse the original axle since the axle is no longer a smooth surface. Probably prolongs it short term, don't see it helping a daily driver. Not really a straightforward answer huh?
ARight i understand its my daily like 8 monthes out of the year ima store it winter time comes ima prob focus mroe on subframe connectors, torque arms, and strut tower brace stuff to hold her 2gether better thanks guys
Some Rear end covers claim to "help" the rear end, but adding cooling fins, some have studs for pre-loading the bearings and some hold additional fluid, over all they just look cool, dont expect them to save your stock ten bolt.

^^ Agree. The 10 bolt simply has inherent weaknesses that a cover will not correct. That being said, it certainly will not hurt anything to install an aftermarket aluminum cover.
I have one. They make changing the rear gear oil easier. They aren't going to keep a 10 bolt from blowing though.
Very true- I have a really nice Moser one and now I'm looking at replacing my rear. Also have bearing cap studs and they obviously didn't help much either.Quote:

Wow. I pulled the drain plug out of mine yesterday and the only problem I had was the drain hole is so small it takes 15 mins to drain! It's real important on those plugs to use some teflon tape on the threads because the metal that the bolt is made of is not aluminum and can sieze up in the threads.Quote:
