It won't throw a code/SES. If you want the fan on/off temps changed, that would require a tune.
Is this good enough?
or do you think i should stick with hypertech?

I've had a hypertech 160 in mine for years with no issues, don't know about that one. Are you needing to replace yours or just want to change the opening temp? Reason I ask is because my owners manual says 180 is stock, not sure if the '98's are a different temp.
My car temp goes higher than 200.
I dnt like that
getting a tune for the fans makes the t stat work like it is supposed to. if you put in a 160 t stat with stock fan settings keeps the t stat open with no fan help with the cooling. i put in a 180 and the first fan opens at 175 and the second opens at 185 and as far as hptuners shows on my logs it hasnt gone higher than 189.
So the only way to keep the temp under 200 is with a tune?
is the stock stat 180 ???
i read in some reference material that it is 180
From what i have picked up its 190 from what i have heard anyway
It is 190. I don't think any manufacturer would put a 180 t-stat in for the sake of engine efficiency(fuel economy) and exhaust emissions. Engines run more efficiently at hotter temp
Mine was tuned and the fans were adjusted with HPT. I dunno if the replacement waterpump came with a 160, 180, or 190.
