I have had my transmission at the shop for a week, and keep getting excuses on why its not together yet. I stopped by today and he told me that fourth gear had some chipped teeth. I saw it and it did. He told me I had to replace the input shaft because the 4th gear is made onto the shaft. Is this true or is he just wanting more money? Please let me know b/c i've already got bout a grand in parts, and I'm getting pissed at him, when he told me that it would take 2 days to have my tranny done.
Yes it is essentially true. There isn't an actual 4th gear. 4th gear is accomplished by locking the input shaft to the output shaft through a synchro. Its a 1:1 ratio and there isn't an actual gear to gear mesh to accomplish that.Quote:
