shift kit ruining u joints?

hey guys, I have a 98 z28 a4 with 3.23s that I'm thinking about putting a transgo shift kit in. I just had my u joints replaced but I'm being told that if I get a shift kit that it will burn through u joints really fast and blow my rear end. Is this true?
I'm trying to wait to order the shift kit but I really need to change my tranny fluid. I don't know much about autos but I'm guessing that when their having problems picking what gear their in, there is either a problem or they fluid needs to be changed?

its a little harder on u-joints and rears but it nothing to worry about.

ok thanks, any ideas on the possible tranney problem? I have never had a car with an auto or ever learned anything about them until now. Up until I test drove my car I hated autos

Considering I have to do the trans fluid so soon I don't really want to wait for the shift kit to get here. Would it be better to have it done through a frost tune later when I get some lts and ory?

A shikt kit will not destroy your u joints or rear end. That said, if you have a problem already the shift kit will make it a bigger problem faster. Its just not going to cause the problem. I have had mine in my 02 for about 15K now without any problems.

I just had my u joints done but when I go from reverse to drive I hear something clunk.. Would that be in the rear end if the u joints are new?

I was told it was replaced right before I bought it with an energy suspension one. I'll hope that was wrong and its a torn stock mount over a broken tailshaft. I don't think thats what it is but still that would suck. I'll check it out later
If it was the mount wouldn't the shifter be moving around?

i had replaced mine with a poly...........then i got the clunk.........the nut had got loose..... :sillyme:

I've heard of vibration issues with poly mounts and problems with the stock rubber ones ripping so Ill see what I have and go from there.

no vib problems here after polys......smooth sailing :love:

I got a vibration w/ my energy suspension and went back to stock.

I'll check what I have when I do my traney fluid and shift kit. I ordered the stage 2 transgo from summit. hope thats a good kit?

transgo is the preferred, I think the shift kit comes w/ the option of 1-3 in all the boxes

I never installed one, I have a jensen healy w/ a 307 and a 700r4 w/ a shift kit and I can say I don't want one in my dd:D
I believe the hd2 is the newer version so you still get to pick shift firmness.

i reccomend every 1 get a TG SK....how ever i also put a BUNCH of other sonnax parts in there for improved performance and reliability......it was not cheap either...tranny is smooth....i dont like slamming shifts....but you definately know when it shifts.....no caddilac slush in my shifts

I also heard with the shift kit will make the transmission last longer. I don't know if thats true but just something I heard.
I don't want slamming shifts but I would like it to shift harder than it does now. It feels like a cadillac shifting right now and doesn't really feel like a muscle car. Then again I've never driven or ridden in anything that had a shift kit so I really wouldn't know
